Telecasters for Metal

Re: Telecasters for Metal

Are you having a midlife crisis Varg? Wanna go back to the 80's? There is no way that machine head, slipknot, gojira, L.O.G., fear factory are not metal. Whether it's 'nu-METAL, death METAL, thrash METAL, speed METAL, doom METAL there is a reaccurring theme here, METAL! ALL these bands ARE METAL, they just fall into different 'types'. You can mosh, bash your head on the wall, kill your neighbors cat just as much listening to Fear Factory's Demanufacture as you can listening to Master Of Puppets. Sure solo's fell out of style but I SERIOUSLY DOUBT the solo earns you the title of 'metal band'. Go back to Jethro with his flute, 'metalhead'.

really, check this out. Doesn't get much more metal than this with Mark Morton playing a tele with neck pickup ripped out:

That was pretty good. Needs a guitar solo though. :)

The funny and ironic thing is Jethro Tull won best metal album for 1989... hahaha

so does that change your mind on whether a tele can play metal. As the video shows it can play metal and do it convincingly. I prefer solos too, but I think it's also a sign of the times more than anything.

Re: Telecasters for Metal

BTW before anyone decides to get all upset because I don't think Lamb of God or Slipknot are metal, chill out. I'm not passing judgement on their music, because I don't listen to them, I really have no interest in them, I'm not telling people ONLY TRUE METAL BY MY DEFINITION is good. Jethro Tull are my favourite band FFS! :)
Well, Jethro Tull did win the 1988 grammy for best metal album.;):)

Edit: I just saw Fusion1's post.

That was funny, Metallica's 'Justice' lost to a fruity dude prancing around with a flute!

Re: Telecasters for Metal

Where did I say teles can't play metal? I even listed Scott Ian and Nergal as metal gods using teles.
I just don't think they LOOK right for metal.

Besides, you could stick EMGs or an Invader or Super Distortion in anything and use it for metal. My point was never about whether they CAN do metal, just that, to me, they SHOULDN'T be used for metal as they don't look quite right.
No doubt someone will tell me I'm an idiot and what do I know blah blah blah, but I'm giving my opinion, it would be pretty pointless just saying "yeah cool, Scott Ian did it, I should like it too!"

Yeah and even Jethro Tull thought that was ridiculous, since Tull were about as metal as Slipknot. :friday: No wait, Tull play guitar solos, so they're more of a metal band than Slipknot were on their first few albums!

Re: Telecasters for Metal

Teles are awesome for metal. Here's a couple of mine:

Anyone who has ever questioned their use for metal shuts up pretty quick once I plug in.
