Tell Me About A PG In The Bridge Of A Lester

I've never tried one in a LP type guitar. I can say that I didn't get along well with the neck version in my Hardtail. I picked one up for a great price, but haven't put it in yet. Will it have enough bottom end? How are the highs? Is it too thin? You know...the standard questions.

+1. PG is my favorite bridge pickup - BUT - it sometimes is too bright for certain guitars. If your guitar is bright already then it's probably not the right pickup for that guitar but if it's chunky then the PG will give you a nice chunky sound with a bit of sizzle on top. Think old ZZ Top and you get the picture. They absolutely RULE in Strats IMHO!

I have one in the bridge of my Charvel 750XL (Mahogany body w/ carved maple top. Think Lester with a Floyd) Sounds awesome. I replaced a JB with it and it rules.

they were made for a lp, as good as they sound in a strat, its killer in the bridge of a lp. punchy as hell with nice bite with the tone wide open, smoothes up nicely with it rolled back a touch. in some ways it reminds me of a tele bridge pup

The PG's are made for LP's.

I've got a pair of PGs in my Hamer Special FM (think Les Paul Double Cut). Those things are amazing blues/rock pickups. Plus, they handle high gain very well. They clean up as well if not better than the 59s. I normally don't like bright pickups, but they have the right amount of sizzle and not too much treble. The bottom end stays pretty tight as well. I don't think you can go wrong with a PG in the bridge of a Les Paul. Unless you're looking for ultra high gain shred, the PG will probably do whatever you want. And it doesn't sound all that bad for shred, either.

I'm going to throw it in tomorrow, and replace the C5 that currently resided there. I'll try it in combination with the GT12-75 speakers in my combo and see how it reacts. Thanks for the descriptions fella's. I guess I had such a hard time dialing in a good tone with one in the neck of my HT that I have been a little put off.

on my pg neck i have the pup kinda low but the poles, especially on the lower strings raised up quite a bit. on the bridge pup they are pretty flat to the bobbin

If you want to use it at the bridge, I would say that you should also use one at the neck (not a '59 for example), because it is sounding a bit thin with less bass there (maybe because of the weaker Alnico II magnet). And sets of similar pickups (with more windings at the bridge) are much easier to balance than different types, although it's a matter of taste of course if this is important or something to be desired at all. But I don't like the change in the tonal character of a guitar when switching between different pickups anymore (been using sets of Tom Holmes, Gibson Shaw and Tokai PAFs and Gibson P-94 single coils in the last weeks as well as combinations of individual pickups).

I love the PG neck but, I really dislike the PG bridge. I find it bright and Ice picky with a trashy sound to it. BTW, it was in a LP.

I've got a Seth in the neck currently, but was thinking of swapping that for an APH while I'm at it. The worst that can happen is that I hate it, and have to burn a set of strings taking it out.
