Tell me about sh-5 vs jb/custom

Hi everyone I just purchase a used sh-5 off of evilbay. Looking for a tight powerful bottom end and the sh-5 was recommended. My guitar as a jb in it right now and I was wondering how would a jb/custom hybrid compare to the custom? Which one has heavier tighter lows and low/mids. Not being able to find a thread/posts comparing the two really leaves me wondering:scratchch. I'm NOT looking for solo lead playing I want something that does really solid rythym chugging and huge palm mutes. Thanks everyone!:cool2:

Cool I was going to slap the custom in first anyways, but I never heard a jb/custom and really would like to know how the two compair to each other.

Anyone ever do a compairson of the two???

@EdHunter I read that in the how to build a 59/custom thread. I made a jazzn/pgb hybrid for the neck position and it sounds fantastic. Litterally the best sounding neck p/u that I personally ever played. Thats why I'm asking about the jb/custom. For what I'm looking for in p/u for the bridge the duncan custom sounds like what I want, but I'm curious about the jb/custom. I've read lots of post about the it but the only thing they say is it sounds awsome. I hope someone has compared it to the DC and can chime in and tell us about it.

No experience with a JB/Custom hybrid although it sounds neat! I'd love some of the qualities of the JB with the tightness and aggressiveness of the Custom. I can tell you for thunderous low end the stock Custom is hard to beat. You hit a power chord on that baby and it punches you in the mouth. Awesome pick up.

Thats how BTR described the JB/custom hybrid:)
IMHO you cant go wrong, were are talking about two KILLER models that come together and i honestly dont know why i never made one???:scratchch:scratchch

Re: Tell me about sh-5 vs jb/custom

the custom/jb hybrid is excellent, i've tried it with either slug/screw coil and it's always very interesting and completely useable (at the very least)
it sounded tighter to me with the custom coil as the slug coil (even with an A2 mag), but it's huge-sounding and a better all-round pickup with the jb as the slug.
if you're using heaps of dirt i'd probably go with a custom slug coil. take your pick re magnets; it's very difficult to make this pickup sound bad
