Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

Re: Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

I have a 72 tele thinline reissue, swamp ash body, that I've adapted for regular size humbuckers. I've tried a bunch of pickups in it and finally settled on phat cats. The best true humbucker that I tried was a Jazz-n (great for clean rhythm and fat leads). I never was happy with a true humbucker in the bridge so my recommendation would be a phat cat bridge and a Jazz or A2p neck for this type of guitar.

Re: Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

I don't see the point of it. I suppose the John 5 is a nice axe for metal. Teles can be adapted to anything though. I'd stay away from Ash and humbuckers. There are heated debates about the importance of wood type in tone, but i believe there is a huge difference .Alder Tele and Humbuckers would be great, but the shape is just a novelty, and i don't quite get it, I'd want a Tune-o-matic bridge on a arched top body or flat Les paul or SG shape for humbuckers, or a Superstrat with a trem and an alder body. Mostly because the Tlee bridge isnt rally desingned for buckers, although I'm sure you can change the bridge easy e=enough, but you are destryoing the original design of the guitar when you do that.
The Tele design is a compromise, and it was made to sound best with singles and to be a fast slick and bendy country lick riffer.
To put two humbuckers it just goes against the grain ( I like one humbucker in the neck), and props the the John 5, but unless you want really Manson type sound, I'd skip the 2 humbucker Tele and get a Gibson/clone.
I now about the versatility of the Tele, and it can be done and sound great.but its like outfitting a duck to be a hawk. It might fly well, but why on earth would you not just get a hawk??

Because a single cut alder guitar with a humbucker sounds killer.

Re: Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

Know what? I was gonna make some snarky comment about humbucker teles not being teles, etc. etc.

Then I saw this:

SCREW what's traditional.

I WANT THAT.

Re: Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

I believe that Jeff Beck and Seymour Duncan both thought that a tele with buckers was a good idea.

Crap, it hadn't even occurred to me to make the humbuckers FilterTrons.

I love how it sounds EXACTLY like what I expected a Tele with FilterTrons would sound like. EXACTLY.

I think I want to save my FilterTron virginity for an actual Gretsch, but that thing sounds really, really sweet.

Yep, the Tele-Gib. Jeff used it on 'Cause we Ended as Lovers'...I made mine years ago, JB/Jazz combo and was my #1 gig axe for years. Def not a Tele sound, but it did have that 'snap' and had great rock tones. I modded the original version as i needed to blend the 2 pups as well as i dislike the Tele slider switch. Very comfy to play and i put a Jimmie Vaghan Strat neck on...wish I kept it...

Re: Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

I know you guys all hate JM with 0 exception ;) but he has been heavily using a Cabronita Especial on tour, the guitar that King Bee is knocking off, and it sounds really, really great.

Here is a video of it sounding purty sweet.

Every time I see him play it on Perfectly Lonely, I think about building one. It just rocks, plain and simple.

Listen to this, you can hear it on it's own, and it sounds INCRE-wait for it- DIBLE.

Well JM may floss his ass with rolled up benjamins, but for the rest of us who can't afford a five thousand dollar telecaster, the King Bee is a great alternative!

If I wanted one, I would build it from parts. That link is a real good jumping off point, if you are interested in a La Cabronita Especial style guitar, ratherdonkulous. Here is a cool build, too - USACG.

Hmm ... you know, now I'm thinking I want a Tron in the bridge and a P90 in the neck.

Hmm ...

Re: Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

Well, I have two such guitars.
One has PAF replicas, whereas the other one has Filtertrons (TV Jones).
The thing is, if you keep the 25.5 scale neck, the guitar still sounds as a tele, with balls ;) (that's the best way I can describe it).
It still retains clarity and snap, but delivers a fatter tone.

Bad image link ---

But anyhow, I think a 'tron / 90 would sound great. I would personally prefer a 'tron / 'tron, but that's because I have a pile of P90 guitars at home that would make Adam blush.

Sorry ... image fixed.

Eh?
