Tell me about the Gibson Faded Double Cut

Seen one used (Ebony) in a local music store and was very impressed. The finish had alot of scratches and a couple of spots where it completely wore off but it really had a cool vintage vibe to it imo. The P90`s sounded absolutely amazing also! I remember when these came out but i didn`t pay much attention to them and i think they are now discontinued. Does anyone have an opinion on these or anyone have one that they really like? Also what would be the best way to touch up the spots on these where the finish wore off? Thanks.

I've played a few, and I loved them. I like the look, the feel, and the sound. If I were to buy another Gibson in the near future, I'd definitely try to score one. As for the marks and spots, I'd leave them. It's a thin, faded finish that's going to take on some character.

Re: Tell me about the Gibson Faded Double Cut

After owning a few doublecuts myself (2 custom shop ones), here's my problem with them. The stability simply isn't there. It pays homage to the originals, but the neck connections are compromised. If you play standing up with the strap, you can get it to pitch bend from moving the body a little bit - that's not a good sign. The neck P90 is in an odd location so it doesn't sound as sweet as it should if it were in its harmonic position (it makes the neck sound brighter than it should since it's closer to the bridge). I've yet to find one where the upper notes ring out really nice.

If you're playing cowboy chords and could care less about perfect playability, they're fun guitars (I loved the look of them), but I have to mention the flaws because that's why I originally sold mine.

There's a red one in a store here....

It is, without a doubt, the most punk rock guitar I have ever laid my hands on.

Then again, any guitar, even a jazz box, can be punk rock. I'm quite a victim of marketing as you can see.

I liked it a lot though...

Well i went back to GC today to play the DC again (simply awesome!) but i didn`t have the money to buy it so i put it on layaway....i didn`t want nobody else to get it! I should have it in a couple weeks.

Re: Tell me about the Gibson Faded Double Cut

I'd opt for a single cut if possible, like a LP special

anything gibson and faded needs all the neck joint it can get

Re: Tell me about the Gibson Faded Double Cut

I've got an old Double Cut Special- the most Rock And Roll guitar. EvAr.

Are they heavy like a Les Paul? (And before I get a bunch of you’re a pu$$y comments. I have an artificial left shoulder joint thanks to my time in the Military.)
