Tell me about the Jazz neck...

I can get one for half the price so I'm thinking it would be a good pair with my JB that will go into my Basswood RG. Would a Jazz work in that guitar? I'd like brilliant cleans from it and preferbly to perform well under high gain.

Re: Tell me about the Jazz neck...

The Jazz should work fairly well in your RG. Go for it!!!

Nightburst, The Jazz is a fantastic pup in the neck position. It's great clean, but it really shines under drive IMO. Very articulate with good sustain.

For an example of clean, check out my cover of "Dee." It was recorded using my Jackson Dinky (alder w/rosewood neck). It was direct into the soundcard with a touch of post-reverb (sorry, no "driven" clips yet) - no amp in the signal chain - just pure guitar and pickup (and well... reverb):

Re: Tell me about the Jazz neck...

It is a lot more clean and clear than the 'Jazz' name implies. I tried one, expecting a warm sound, and was very disappointed. Too clear of a sound for a neck position, it sounded like it was more in the middle than the neck, if that makes sense. It might just be what you want, but I went with an APH2.

Listened to the clip Jammermatt, sounds good man, I love Randy Rhodes. Sounds like the Jazz does harmonics very well?
If the pickup is still in the shop when I'm there next week I'll buy it.
