Re: Tell me about the Marshall 5010 "Master Lead Combo"
This one is pre-MOSValve.
GJ, I'm jealous. That combo sounds totally kickass. I had a DIY 100-watt JMP combo, with top-mount controls. I started with a JMP 2203 head that I bough new from Manny's on 48th Street in about 1981. When I wanted to down-size from a half stack, I bought a 50-watt 2x12 combo, re-braced the enclosure, installed my 2203 chassis, and added a pair of EVM12L speakers. That was a fun amp.
One of the things I like about this 5010 is that it reminds me of the last Marshall I owned, which was a 4010 combo: JCM800 2204 chassis in a 1x12 combo box. The ultimate "sleeper" Marshall if you ask me. #1 on my "never shoulda sold it" list, above even the 2203 and a Hiwatt DR103.
You guys have sold me; I'm buying this amp on Tuesday if it's still there. It'll be a good "home" amp and a solid backup for the 18 Watter when it's on the fritz (like it is right now). Plus, it's always nice to have something around the house with that big Marshall script logo on the front.
