Tell me about the Sentient

I usually run a '59 or Jazz in the neck position of my humbucker guitars. Is the sentient adding something I might be missing out on?

Re: Tell me about the Sentient

I havnt played one yet, but I have heard people say it sounds a lot like a 59/jazz hybrid.

Re: Tell me about the Sentient

I like it a lot. The best way I can describe it is a modern Jazz neck. A little more output but somehow is a little more articulate, as well.

Re: Tell me about the Sentient

I think it is a little brighter than the Jazz, but not as much as a Full Shred. It does have a little more mids than a Jazz, though (to me).

Re: Tell me about the Sentient

I have the Sentient in a mahogany tele. To me it falls between the 59 and jazz soundwise. The best of them both: the 59 can be bassy and dark, and the jazz can be lean and bright. Smack in the middle on that scale is the Sentient IMO.

Would highly recommend the Sentient. To me it hits a perfect sweet spot for neck pickups: vintage output but fully able to keep up with hot bridge pickups, articulate without being shrill, full without being overly bassy, can handle high gain with no problems, great tone for rock solos, but gives you great cleans.

Good to know, dual humbucker mahogany teles are my thing, and what I was thinking about using one in.

Re: Tell me about the Sentient

The Sentient is a very middle of the road pickup. It’s not anemic clean and not overly wooly with gain. You can get away with actual rhythm playing on it. I find it to be a more useful pickup than an air norton, and it does straddle the range between the Jazz and the 59.

Yep pretty much my take also.

Now. I'm talking in les Pauls. The Jazz neck is not lean and bright. I find it to have way too much of everything. Not a high output pickup, but it gives off the feeling of being compressed. I put an A3 in my Jazz neck and it is awesome in a LP. a 59n, to me is more usable. Then again, the Jazz neck was designed for Teles. The only A5's in the neck I have been happy with are: 59n, Full Shred neck & Sceamin' Demon. I have not tried a Sentient, but not worth taking the risk for me. Anyone done an A3 in a Sentient?
