Tell me about the SH-6N Distortion Neck/Seymourizer in the bridge

3mm is worth trying. At least you will know if it makes a difference. That is, if you plan on keeping it. If not, sell it and get the guitar you want.

So little update. I did drop a standard-sized Ceramic magnet in the pickup. I also changed the pot value to 500K. That was a nice change. I feel it tightend up the pickup a tad in the lows, and got rid of the slight harshness that was there before with the 1M pot.

I also tuned the guitar to Drop B with heavier strings, and I'm happier with how it's doing. I mean, now it sounds more different than my singlecuts, but in a good way where I don't feel like constantly comparing them...

... for now. :laugh2:

Have you tried a Full Shred? That’s my fix for a bridge pickup mounted closer to the neck.

I have not. I may, honestly. I know it's related to the Custom, somewhat. If I could have something close to the Custom's aggressive high-end just with less low-end, that'd be nice. Tell me more about it.

There is a rumor that the Fullshred has the same coils as the Custom, but with hex poles and an alnico 5, but I'm not so sure. I'm hearing different things when I made a custom5 with hex bolts (Hybridized 2 of them, with fullshred poles). The Custom 5 still has a bit more girth in the midrange, where the FS is really tight, aggressive, biting almost.

I’ve had the same issue with my HSS Strat since I got it. I’ve never been fully satisfied with the tone I’m getting from the bridge humbucker, which is where I live 99% of the time, so the guitar rarely gets played. The best pickup I’ve found for it so far is the 59/Custom hybrid, by the way. Until this thread, I had no idea that the bridge humbucker is physically farther away from the bridge than it is in my other guitars. I’ve got a few HH Teles around that I think sound great, and even better with the 59/Custom than the Strat does, so it looks like my next step is going to be breaking out the router for a custom pickguard for the Strat and, if necessary, to route out some wood so the bridge pickup is the same distance from the bridge as it is in my Teles.

Thanks for opening my eyes. I really like the Strat otherwise, and I think there’s a good chance this is the missing piece for me.

Sorry I missed your reply.

i have the FS set in a Charvel 750XL fixed bridge sunburst ( so mahogany body and maple top - solid colors were alder body).

I play mainly thrash metal and this is the perfect axe for it.

The fixed bridge models have the bridge pickup further away from the bridge than the trem models.
