how reliable/good is it.

i may be able to get one for 50$ and i am considering it because this **** mic i got now, clips even if the volume is lower than bedroom levels.. ATM i dont have a PA for recording, but i'm on the lookut for a 4-8 channel one.. 4 channel would be cool for now, is it's only for home use mic & drum machine for now.. if you know a good cheap one (that preferably has firewire connection (i can dream, cant i?? lol) tell me (please no behringer units) i've been looking at this one to be exact http://www.soundcraft.com/product_sheet.asp?product_id=121 .. though i have yet to find one localy .. omg.. they are 105euro on fleabay!!!!

soo.. the lowdown on it.. have you guys have any experience with it. i am checking the shure site to see what the units specs are and at what volume it starts clipping etc

i'm frustrated with my current recording setup to say the least...

It's not like an SM57 is that expensive ;). Just grab one, you'll thank me later.

+1 the SM and Beta series aren't really expensive so you should consider one of those instead of the even cheaper PGs. I only own a Beta 58 atm but it's a great sounding mic which is nearly indestructable.

I personally prefer standard 57's and 58's, but to each his own, I've heard amazing tones out of beta 57's. (The Gathering)

Re: tell me about the shure PG57

well.. i'll have to get one of them in germany .. cos an sm58beta costs about $210 here.. an sm57 is around umm.. $140.. dont know about the regular 58 .. anyway. i'll try to score on from the bay with the mix board

i'd still like to hear somehting about the PG57 though.. cos if i cant get one for a good price, i'll have to buy that one

Re: tell me about the shure PG57

maybe order from musik-produkti.de, thomann.de or musicstore-koeln.de I think they ship europe wide...
It's about 90EUR

I really don't like the beta series for anything other than live performance for the most part. I'd stick with the tried and true SM series.

Re: tell me about the shure PG57

I've got a old Shure Prologue 10L (Which i believe preceded the PG 57) It looks just like it? I payed $32 for it when the SM-57 was going for $69. All the recording on my soundclick page where done with it.(I'll post a link if you want?) I think it sounds fine.
BTW, It was dropped shoulder high on to the pavement and rolled into a puddle of water in the gutter. AND IT STILL WORKS!:chairfall (Yes, A true story):)
