Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

I am in the market for a Strat. While I would love an American Vintage, Eric Johnson, Mark Knopfler, or American Deluxe model, my budget won't allow for any of those. I need to find a good bang for the buck. I always end up modding them to some degree anyway.

I'm thinking seriously about the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat. I have heard nothing but great things about them. I haven't played one because I typically stay away from Squiers. My daughter was eyeing a Squier CV 60's Jazz bass that was fantastic. I can only imagine that the guitar would be the same quality. Anyone have experience they would like to share?

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

Yes! My main guitar is a Squier CV 50s strat that I changed everything on. It was a pretty high quality guitar at it's price point. I still tell people about how it smoked both my brothers MIMs and when I played some Am. Strats at the shop, some of them weren't any better.

I would say more but I have to run. Good guitars. :)

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

I haven't played one but I've heard the bodies on the Indonesian made Squiers are good quality. I expect the electronics may need upgrading but on this board that happens even for the US counterparts.

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

Got a white cv 50....with the anodized pickguard....
Fun and ok....very very good for the price.
I changed tuners, electronics, pickups, bridge(it is spaced narrower than a normal strat)
Be mindful of loose frets, some are nice and others are dogs..
I rather like mine, got a cv Tele as well:)
Sweet guitars for the money, won't break the bank in the modifications end.

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

I've tried out the 60's version and if the 50's is as good as the 60's one is, then I suggest you go and buy it. They are definately worth the price tag and are much better than Fender's MIM Standard Strats IMO.

They are made in China, but they have very good quality wood it looks like and the body on mine is very resonant and lively. I love the neck. :)

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

I really liked the 60s strat, haven't played the 50s... but yeah I've owned squier standards and deluxes and the classic vibe is really on a different level. Even with no mods the CV series is surprisingly playable stuff. Killer deals.

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

What are they made of? Some kind of Asian Pine right? I think if I got one I'd swap out the body, pickups, and hardware. I dont see the budget neck being unworkable with a lot of fretwork..

50s Strat - Alder
60s Strat - Alder
50s Tele - Pine
Thinline Tele - Mahogany

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

I've been curious about these CVs too; I'd be interested to know how they stack up against 80s MIJ Squiers.

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

I got mine a couple of years ago. It goes to every gig. It's simply a great guitar. I did one simple mod to it that really worked well. I moved the second tone pot to the bridge pickup and left the middle pickup without a tone circuit. It really opened up the middle pickup and the hot bridge pickup can sound almost P90 like with some tone roll off. Great guitar that is staying with me until the end.

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

So, you guys would recommend these? I've heard good things about the Classic VIbes but never got a chance to play one. They look pretty nice and once some Duncans have been added...

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

Yeah if you don't care about the headstock name then yes the CV series is a much better deal than MIM stds and although I like the MIM Classic 50s strat A LOT I think the squier is basically the same thing for half price... and in fact many will think the CV is BETTER than a $700 MIM 50s strat simply for the 9.5" radius and medium jumbos vs 7.25" with the tiny frets

If you like a bare bones no nonsense strat you could do much worse than a cv

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

they are great guitars for the money, especially after you upgrade the pickups.

Re: Tell Me About the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat

The classic vibe squires are all great guitars. But if you want a good strat I'd recommend a used MIM that you can get for around $300. If you find one with a good neck you'll get a great deal. Then over time little by little you can upgrade everything in it, starting with the pickups because they'll cost you the most.
