Tell me about this pedal Nobels ODR-1 Overdrive ?

Had never heard of it until the last week or so but the reviews are killer. Looking for a OD to give me a transparent light crunch without to much color. Mostly looking for a little "hair" when I dig in with some compression and warmth on the clean side with my Archon. More smooth light gain singing tone than real grit. Compressor is not getting me there and don't really want just another TS variant. Anybody have a Nobels ODR-1 Overdrive and some insight if I'm on the right track?

Maybe something like the tones here. Have a great high gain and a warm super clear clean but am lacking in the edgier light breakup smooth tones like here. Have a TS 9 but it's not really the tone I 'm looking for with this rig so?

I own the ODR-1 and the ODR-1 Mini, both are fantastic overdrives that work well with any amp. I usually use mine thru a hot-rodded Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, but get great dirt with it thru a Mesa Boogie, even a VOX AC30. What I dial it in for is a "Keith Richards" type tone, some dirt and a little bit of hair, but keeping the note articulation solid. The nicest thing about this pedal, is it provides a "full" overdriven sound, not mid-rangey, even at low drive settings, I typically use it with my Tele 5-string (Open G tuning), and it fills out with a Les Paul with humbuckers.

What I'm looking for is some thing that is very touch sensitive that will let me get really sparkling cleanish tone with a volume roll off and light touch but some grit when i really dig in. Have a great clean and fantastic smooth responsive crunch but lack those in between tones.
Have to regularly cover stuff like this doing the Modern Worship gigs.

its a great overdrive but was under the radar for a while in most circles. it was also a "secret weapon" type pedal for people in the know. been around since mid 80's i believe. the spectrum control isnt a treble roll off, it seems to bring in more highs and lows as you turn it up. could be a mid cut too, no idea of the inner workings, but thats seemingly what it does. cool alternative to a ts that covers similar ground without sounding the same

Have a TS 9 on the MT 15 rig I'm using at my Church. You nail it on the Midrange thing with a TS 9. What I'm looking for is a OD that is more transparent and touch sensitive than the TS variants for a fat smooth and dynamic lower gain setting with in particular the Archon. Last Saturday my Clean tones were way to harsh and sterile on the clean side in the FOH with the Archon running just my Wampler Compressor here. Some was the house mix which was very harsh with every guitar player I heard on that stage some was my amp settings as the monitor mix was a muddy mushy mess and I over compensated. Bottom line I need a warmer smoother slightly compressed edge of breakup tone than this running my clean side at times. Looking hard at the Nobels as a solution.

On another note was quite happy with my crunch tones running just a Wah in front and a DD7 and Strymon Blue Sky in the loop with the Archon. What I need is an in-between tone between the high gain and pure clean. We all ran the same mic ( SM 57) that teh sund crew had set up and every guitar player I heard on this stage was mixed very harshly and bright through the FOH. I though my Archon actually sounded pretty decent under the circumstances in the recording.

I fully agree EXCEPT that the standard version did have more bass than you need in a full piece band IMHO. That’s why I ended up selling mine.

The new version they currently sell has a bass-cut switch so I guess I wasn’t the only one. So if I were to get this I’d make sure to get that version.

If you want very dynamic overdrives, the Sweet Honey Overdrive is a good choice. Also the OCD (or EHX Glove) and TC Mojo Mojo.

Thanks for those suggestions as looking fr alternatives to the Tube Screamer variants. Want more smooth and transparent and have a TS 9 on the board for my MT 15. It does the job but isn't the tone really want for this board. Yes am looking at the new version with the bass cut switch on the Nobles for the reason you talk about.

You might look at the Forza, which doesn't have the more mids/less bass thing. It overdrives most frequencies equally.

This sounds like a Pedal Monsters Klone. I use that on my worship pedalboard. It is ridiculously touch sensitive.

I'm a great fan of the EHX Allied Overdrive;

I use it for most things except bass guitar; as it has a low-cut (around 100hz).

Very versatile, powerful EQ and three transistor stages + footswitchable mosfet "boost" (that sounds very round and warm).

Also has a "blend" control, and can be used in stereo .

Wanted to drop out a thanks to all who replied here. Went in the end with a Wampler Belle to get more bass control for humbucker guitars. For the first time in many many years I now have a mid gain tone that I'm happy with with the little Belle. Haven't found a dirt pedal in years that I was really comfortable using until I stared looking at the Nobels and clones. Love the original OD 1's i have played with single coils but found them muddy with humbuckers at times. The little Belle however with the additional controls really hits the spot for me.
Here is a clip from last Sunday with the little Belle through my PRS MT 15 head clean. The guitar is my 2017 Kiesel DC with their Marks Singles and Beryllium bridge here I'm running pos 2 with the Beryllium split with the Marks single in the middle.
First time in many years I have a dirt box on my board I really like playing through by itself on a clean channel! I am using a boss CS 3 for a little lead boost here and only a little verb in the loop.
