I really want to know!Should i really check some of their work? Are they really that good?
Is the workmanship so great? And do they really hit "your" tone if you go custom?

Please tell me what you experoenced ,know or even think (yeah that's a hard job for a guitar player i know):fingersx:

i love the Orange tone ,so it leads me to MATAMP ,and if tehy can build me what i want for that price ,i am doomed if i don't buy one!

Re: Tell me more about MATAMP!

workmanship - top notch. they give any other butique manufacturer a run for their money. it's a small company, so the attention to every single detail is astonishing.

tone - i think of them as the bareknuckle pickups of the amp world. they got their price, but once you get yours and shape it to YOUR desires, they are WELL worth it.

options - from diferent tubes, voicings, to speakers (if you check their website out, they got every better known/popular speaker on hand so you can try them out in various cabs too) and color of tolex on the cabs :D

me and ben played through a couple last year in london (i hope they come over this year too, cos i need to talk to hayden .. and dave lol (hayden is head of production and dave is their engineer/assembly dude) AND try more of their line out.
i might extend my stay and head up to their factory with ben, but i am not sure, cos i want to go to a spa resort with a ladyfriend :D but lets not go off topic

Re: Tell me more about MATAMP!

Hell yes. Absolutely incredible amplifiers. A sound all of thier own though. The workmanship cannot be faulted, perfection P2P wiring. The tone is full, fat and full of harmonics and character. There is bound to be a model in their line up that you will absoutely love. I'm considering a Mini Mat myself at the moment, as something of a recording and home alternative to my Marshall.

Re: Tell me more about MATAMP!

A good friend of mine is a local dealer, so I've played several Matamps.

Construction-wise, they're pretty impressive, as well built as anything out there. In terms of tone, the production models vary a bit.

The models that stay close to the original Orange sound do exactly that. Be warned, however, that this is certainly NOT the current Orange sound of, say, a Rockerverb or AD140. Vintage Oranges have a very unique thing going on that has little to do with modern production Oranges, which for my ears are nice amps but far more of a generic, marshall-derived tone than their original counterparts. So to play a Matamp green reissue is to hear a something quite diferent than a current orange.

Some of the other Matamps push into the Marshall direction, and are certainly good amps in that EL34 style.

For me, nothing in the Matamp range has grabbed me and made me need to have one. But they may well work for you. I'd probably shy away from them doing custom work if you're a modern high gain guy, simply because they don't really make an amp that fits that bill. I'd go for any one of many custom builders that build for high gain instead.

The minimats are a great little tool.

Re: Tell me more about MATAMP!

Thanx Guys.I really appreciate the input!
Well i love the orange AD50 tone alot.I think i can push it more with a distortion/OD/TS pedal in some way.The "snarling dog" kind of growl ot of that AD50 is really impressive for me.
If the Custom work is really custom ,not just the tolex or the front pedal ,i have to try it out.
I think I am going to Kiel to try some out.

Wich models are a good base to try ?Or better said ,wich models you guys know are good sounding and giving me an idea wich way to choose?

A local Guitar player blew my mind with his MATAMP cabinet!Man that thing was nasty ,and so well focused!BTW ,i was allways a fan of Orange Cabinets.I played lots of them ,even one from 60's.Great stuff!

BTW ,as i am the "master " of this topic ,i really appreciate if you go more "offtopic" heheheh.:firedevil :censored:

Re: Tell me more about MATAMP!

I really want a GTL! but Im not ready to fork down the bank, and I like the versatility of the dual recto which is made in USA, so Im probably gonna go with that one day - soundgarden uses it and sounds awesome with the dual recto! i would get a 2x12 slanted cab vertical to go with the matamp - looks great and sounds great for that style! good for stoner and doom!

Re: Tell me more about MATAMP!

Matamp cabs are indeed the bomb.

I borrowed a Matamp Green cab with G12H30s for a large festival gig last January. Here it is with Mesa Blue Angel on top and Victoria Double Deluxe alongside. Fun gig...
