Testing some Cab sims, with epic and ripping black metal

CTN

The Drama Dude
Been working on this song for a while, and I decided to use it as a test bed for some new Cabinet IR's I found.

My signal chain was:

Fender hot-rodded to hell strat (see thread in guitar shop)
Zoom 505, custom patch
Fender practice amp -> Preamp Out
Computer's microphone jack

My DAW is Reaper
I also added:
Voxengo Boogex, with only a couple changes to the pre EQ (slid the mids up a bit, and the highs), turned down the output level
Loaded a supposedly Fred Nordstrom angled mic type IR on the left rhythm guitar, and an Andy Sneap esque edge mic type IR on the right.
Nordstrom straight mic IR on the leads, and a little bit of reverb.

That's it.

Lemme know what you think, even if you don't enjoy it so much ;)

I like it. Hard to believe that you're using such a basic setup. It's crazy to think what you'd sound like with "better" gear. :D

haha I'm just happy I can get half decent sounds for recording riffs and demos at home without spending any money really. Which is what I've been trying to find for years...a way to have good sound without sinking tons of money into outboard equipment or expensive programs and plugins.

Those cab impulses I downloaded make such a huge difference over the stock ones included with Voxengo Boogex. Also, I think using my zoom pedal for distortion (as crappy as it is) is a lot better than using a VST distortion plugin, since they can never sound nicely saturated without also being noisy as hell. At least I can get a bit of noise reduction on the zoom.

As for the better gear thing...well you'll just have to wait until my band finishes recording our new album :D

Dude that sounds great! It sounds even better when you consider the DAW and stuff.

It does sound nice. I use some line 6 products, and this sounds better.
