Testing the Waters: My Carvin Carve Top

sosomething

Seymour Duncan Customer Support
I'm checking to see if anyone would be interested in purchasing my Carvin Carve Top (CT4C). It's from 2007 and in great shape (about 9 out of 10) with a TON of really cool upgrades.

I paid $1400 for it new. I recognize that Carvins don't have the same resale value as some other brands (for whatever reason). That said...

$900 and it ships to your door.

Specs:

  • Mahogany Body and neck
  • Maple top
  • Ebony fret board
  • medium-jumbo frets (not stainless)
  • 25" scale
  • OFR Tremolo
  • Sperzel locking tuners
  • Graphite nut
  • Shiny ebony finish with natural binding
  • Controls: Volume, tone, 3-way selector, coil tap
Upgrades!!:

  • Chrome-top DiMarzio pickups ($120 a piece!)
    • Neck: PAF Joe
    • Bridge: Tone Zone
  • Refinished natural mahogany neck in Tung Oil (incredible)
  • Tremol-No trem lock installed
  • Upgraded caps, pots, etc. by RS Guitarworks
  • Extra mini switch by output jack: Direct-through mod (removes volume and tone pots from circuit - increases output and clarity)
It weighs about 8.5 lbs. Perfectly balanced on a strap or in the lap. This guitar plays SMOOTH and the action is silly-stupid low with no dead spots anywhere on the neck.

The guitar is snappy and bright (due most likely to the ebony board) so the DMZ Tone Zone is a perfect match for the bridge - not muddy or mushy at all, and the split coil tones conjure Telecaster sounds.

My tastes are moving more and more into the single coil realm and I don't have much use for a Floyd these days - thus this awesome guitar hangs on the wall unplayed.

Think you might want it? Drop me a PM.

Pics to follow.

I'm going to keep a tally of the number of people who post with, "I would love to buy this, but I can't afford it."

Re: Testing the Waters: My Carvin Carve Top

Dude, Adam, that thing looks like it could out-PRS a PRS. You always come out with these badass guitars that none of us even knew you had.

You are the man, and I salute your promiscuous gear life.

I am not going to buy your guitar, but I want you to remember that every time I see an awesome guitar, I think to myself, "I bet sosomething has one of those that nobody knows about."

And Keith --- I would love to buy this, but I can't afford it.

Re: Testing the Waters: My Carvin Carve Top

I didn't know you had that. That's nice.

Re: Testing the Waters: My Carvin Carve Top

Can you work something out as far as price WITHOUT the pickups?

I have a PGn/S Deco combo that I'd love to throw in there.

Besides, I don't have much use for chrome colored Dimarzio's.

Ha! Thanks. :) Yes, it's really nice. It's kind of how I envision a marriage between shredder performance and old-world tonality. It plays like lightning but it doesn't sound like a guitar with a Floyd.

I didn't know you had that. That's nice.

Thanks! Wanna buy it from me? :D

What's the tally so far?

No, sorry.

The pickups feature modified baseplates of my own design to play nice with the Carvin 3-screw pup rings (for angle adjustment) and I don't really feel like ripping the guitar apart when it's such a perfect combination of form and function already.

Too bad. I need another set of pickups lying like I need a hole in the head. Let me know if you change your mind.

1. Buy guitar
2. Replace pickups
3. Sell leftover pickups

I'm sure someone out there will be interested in chrome DiMarzios.

Re: Testing the Waters: My Carvin Carve Top

Adam - seriously - stop hawking guitars that I would buy if I had the cash!!! :D

Re: Testing the Waters: My Carvin Carve Top

Fie on you and your kind!

*weeps bitterly*

Seriously... awesome axe. I'd buy it for SNG if I had the cash but I think the next guitar I pick up will be another Les Paul or a Warmoth build.
