Hi Folks,
I'll keep it brief. I built a Telecaster for my son. Nearly finished. Now, I bought Custom Texas pickups for it and
I'd like some advice on the best wiring arrangement for it. Its rock that hes into , so keeping that in mind and
the fact that I have a 5 way switch , what can I do to make the most of the 5 switches? Or should I keep with the
traditional?

Cheers

custom texas pups arent something im familiar with, is that their full name? who makes them?

as far as the 5 way switch, is it a normal strat switch or is it a super switch? if you arent sure, post a picture and we can help

I tend not to contribute much to the forum these days as there are many more knowledgable members . However I may be able to give you some guidance. I presume the pickups you are refering to are SD Custom shop Texas specials. I only have experience of the stock TS and these are excellent all round pups and would have be fine for Rock. I assume the Custom shop version is as good if not better.

I assume that the 5 way you have is stock; I have yet to find a superswitch that actually fits into a Telecaster cavity. I have wired 5 ways into many telecasters and the most popular schematic is 1. Neck 2. neck and bridge in parallel 3. bridge 4. Neck in series with a capacitor 5. Bridge and neck in Series. There are other variations but for rock the series option (position 5) is probably the most useful as it gives a bit more banana for cutting through the drummer for leads. Most players for whom I have done this wiring have been very happy but there are a few who still prefer the simplicity of the 3 way and a push pull to get the series option. Its difficult the get the wrong position by mistake with a 3 way whilst gigging.

Hope this helps

I might have it wired so in position 3, it is the outside 2 pickups. It would require a SuperSwitch or a special MegaSwitch to do this, though.

Oh well, I guess I was thinking there might be a middle pickup with the 5 way switch included. Maybe it is just 2 pickups, I am not sure.
