Texas hot / SSL-6 same polarity???

I have Antiquity Texas hots in the neck and middle of my strat. RWRP in the middle. I want to try an SSL-6 in the bridge. Do I wire it the same way as the TH's? White to switch, black to pot? Or because they're antiquities, is something different?

Re: Texas hot / SSL-6 same polarity???

I don't want to guess wrong ... I think they're wound differently, since the Ants are wound excactly like 50s Fenders, and SSLs aren't.

there are only a few people on the forum who have mixed and matched these particular pickups.
basically there are two issues: magnetic polarity and wind direction. you can determine if your pickups are magnetically compatible the same way you do with regular magnets - touch and see if they repel or attract. That won't give you the wind direction though. The wind direction is listed for Antiquities, but I didn't find it for SSLs.

Re: Texas hot / SSL-6 same polarity???

Thanks Curly. I know the Ants are wound like 50's pickups, with a north wind. The Tone Wizard shows a classic rock set in a strat w/texas hots and ssl-6 bridge, so I want to give it a try. The Ant Custom bridge sounds great, but isn't giving me enough push for the band I'm playing in now. I hate pedals, so I'd like to try a hotter pickup.

I didn't find that set in the tone wizard ... they usually mix SSL5 or 6 with SSL1 or 2s. However, I don't see a problem with what you want to do, other than sorting out the wiring.

there are a couple players here who have mixed Surfers with an Antiquity bridge, but I don't know how they sorted out the wiring, so I won't say.

I do have an antiquity/ ant custom set in my ash strat, and it's great. I also have another set with APSs and an SSL3 bridge, and that's a great set too. There are others here who have an SSL5 in the bridge and love it.

other than that I'm sorry I really can't help your specific wiring question

Re: Texas hot / SSL-6 same polarity???

Thanks again Curly. If you select Alder, Strat, Classic Rock, Maple neck, Vintage trem, on the Wizard, it'll give you that option. Anyways, I wired it up. I had to switch the the RWRP TH middle to the neck, and the neck TH to the middle to get the polarity/hum cancelling right. Then just wired white to switch and black to ground, sounds great.
