Texas special sounding strange :(

Just rewired my telecaster but noticed the yellow wire from the texas tele neck had been lost somewhere. wired the white to 3way switch and black to ground in cojuction with the lil59 bridge (with push pull pot)

Now its been a while since this guitar has been working but is the missing yellow cable causing the guitar to sound strange?

Before the neck was quite middley and full and warm now it sounds like the output is way lower than before and less bass and treble. pickup height is near enough correct too.

What have i done wrong? the lil59 sounds how i remembered it. but the neck texas tele hmm,Phase issue?, or is that the tap wire?

Thanks

Re: Texas special sounding strange :(

I'm not sure... but it seems like you are using the tap wire as "hot".

Re: Texas special sounding strange :(

Which Texas Special is this. The only Tele Texas Special I've seen only has two wires, the yellow and the black one.

Re: Texas special sounding strange :(

well its a texas special tele neck from mid 90's

3 wires white, yellow(detached it self from solder now missing)and black.

I think because the yellow is missing that is what is causing tonal problem

if anyone can help thanks

Re: Texas special sounding strange :(

All the diagrams I've seen indicate the yellow wire going to ground with the black wire. You would have to inspect where the yellow wire starts (where did it detach from ) and maybe solder an extension to ground?

I believe the yellow wire is supposed to allow for series/paralled hook up, but not sure if you were using it that way.

fender doesnt show much on the web for these pickups

im gonna try white to 3way and replace yellow wire and black to ground, i think you are correct in its for something along the lines of series/parallel or tapping earlier in the wind

thanks, ill let you all know what happens

Re: Texas special sounding strange :(

Andy, the James Burton Standard Tele has Texas Specials. You can check that diagram on the Fender site.

Yeah I had a look to get some idea to wire it correctly, i ended trying to connect a new wire from where the yellow wire broke off and connecting it all up, however the texspecial pickup still wasnt having it. So i routed out the pickguard and threw in some old jackson covered single coil, gonna post a thread to id it tomorrow as i have two of them. sounds pretty good now

cheers for all your help everyone
