texas specials, '62s

I have currently a set of fender '62s in an alverez fat strat and they sound really well with a pearly gates plus in the bridge. I like the sound a lot. I was wondering, I also have a strat bred with an ovation headstock with no namer singles. What's the difference from the 62s and texas specials. I've been intrigued for yrs but never heard them. Would they blend well with the Pearly gates mini humbucker in the bridge?

Yes... I do like the pearly gates that much. 2 out of my 4 guitars have them!

Re: texas specials, '62s

im not a big fan of the texas specials. they are a little harsh in the upper mids. if you use 13's tuned down a half step they might be great but i use 11's in std tuning and i dont like em. the 57/62 fender pups are ok but not my favorites either. not bad, just kinda middle of the road a5 vintage type strat pup not bad sounding but i think there are other options that take the same basic sound and elevated it up to a higher level. for fender pups i like their fat 50's but prefer the duncan ssl2 (i like flat poles) or antiquity II surfers for alnico 5 strat pups. the texas specials are a little hotter and bolder but i find them gritty and unpleasing to the ear which is why i say they may work great with heavier strings that are detuned.

im a big fan of the pearly gates too. do you use 250k controls? if so and you like the 57/62 pups i might try the ssl1 paired with the pg.

Yes sir. I run 250k pots. One volime two tones one to split the mini bucker. My switch is a three way. I think ill try out the ssl1
