The $25 BC Rich Warlock->Please assist me!

Re: The $25 BC Rich Warlock->Please assist me!

If it's plywood, I'd pull it apart and sell the neck and body and pickup separately. Not worth putting any time into and you'd probably still be able to get $150 for it.
In the summer of 1990 when I graduated high school I saw advertisements for a guitar shop in Mpls that had BC Rich guitars for $125 . The guitars were imports with cheapest hardware and plywood bodies. I'm not saying you bought a lemon, but like Dominus said the neck, tremolo and the DiMeola pickup might end up the most marketable parts of that guitar.

Wow, you guys are good. Thanks for all the replies!

A few follow ups:

-How would I best go about determining if it is a plywood body?

-Are there any telltale "markers" that would distinguish a Class Axe model?

@ ehdwuld-

Thanks for taking the time to research and write out a detailed description of the wiring; it was extremely informative and helpful. You mention I may have a loose ground: would re-soldering all of the connections conceivably fix this, or is there another method that I should know about?

Again, thanks to everyone for all of the help so far. I'm enjoying this little project, and I truly appreciate all of y'all sharing your expertise.

cheers,
->Patrick

Re: The $25 BC Rich Warlock->Please assist me!

I've done some googling, and the prospect of dating an NJ Warlock from its' neckplate is murky. Also, from what I've seen so far, all the BC Rich serial numbers have had at least 5 digits.

edit: One thing I'm sure of: there should be a 2-letter "BO" (bolt-on) prefix, if it was made during the late 80's/early 90's.

Distribution of the brand has gone through 3 or 4 different companies since Bernie Rico started. With each change in ownership, the serial number system changed as well. Since Bernie died, none of the Rico family is involved in the company anymore; it's currently owned by Ed Roman.

edit 2: The photo isn't exactly HD -- what does the fine print under the logo say?

just touch them with the soldering iron
let them melt and re-cool
check the bridge ground on both ends
the blue striped wire
it should enc up on the "claw" for the tremolo

Welcome Bloodpup!

A couple of things to mention here - while I am all for the details, It's a late 80's/early 90's low-mid end BC Rich Shred stick with a cool paint job. It has obviously been modded, and is in no way shape or form a collector if that's what you are thinking. All the details in the world don't matter - if you dig it, great. If not, flip it. (I'll give 100 for it right now).

That said - one of my GREATEST regrets is not buying a BC Rich Bass of the same ilk in the early 90's. It was 100 in pawn shop. Red Crackle (is the crackle really purple? or blood red?).

I say this:

#1 Paint the neck black
#2 Put a X2N, or a Dimebucker, or something outrageous in the bridge.
#3 Keep the DiMeola for a while to see if you dig it. If not easy trade for something you want. Rare pup.
#4 refurb the Floyd.

Shred that beast like there is no tomorrow!!!!!
