The 59 bridge humbucker, some questions.

Re: The 59 bridge humbucker, some questions.

I've put new strings on, checked everything with the same result.

The guitar is in the case now and that's where it stays or else i'm gonna throw it out of the window, i'm allergic to these kind of things:eyecrazy:.

I'll contact a tech tomorrow, that will be the safest thing for the guitar.

If the guitar was a strat, I could say that's the ring of the vibrato's springs... but as it's a LP, I'm at a loss here... something metalic ringing in a audible frequency blending with the p'ups output signal.

Are you SURE it's NOT a strat?

That was the first thing that came to my mind, too. I was all like 'ha! No0bz don't know strat springz LOLZ' and then I read the OP and I was all like 'I am teh noobz??? NNnnooOOooOOoooo...!!!'.

But yeah, sounds just like it.

What about the springs on the pickup height screws? Could they be responsible for this sort of noise? I assume you've got them compressed tight against the mounting ring?

I also thought of that, it's a mistery to me at this point.
I mean those springs are designed to hold them in place, how can they start to ring when they are under that pressure i don't know.

Anyway if i'll solve i let you guys know.

If they're under pressure, they won't be ringing. It was a long-shot, but I was thinking that you might be using a spring that's too short and therefore was not being pressed against the mounting ring and rattling about with the vibrations of the strings.

I dunno, man. I probably would have passed it off as natural harmonics, but it does sound like something mechanical rather than electrical to me. I think something must be rattling. It's a weird problem, to be sure.

Re: The 59 bridge humbucker, some questions.

Something is rattling but as an overtone on two string. if it was one string only on one note there will be a chance that something was resonating (even a coil for example), but two strings are too much and however the ringing could be heard with the neck pickup too.
Are your strings very low on the fretboard? Or is the tailpiece too high so the pressure on the bridge is weaker?
Try this, screw down the tailpiece and raise a bit the bridge, retune the guitar and try again.

Re: The 59 bridge humbucker, some questions.

Turns out it's the bridge pup that's causing the trouble, i'm returning it.

Re: The 59 bridge humbucker, some questions.

Glad you got it (somewhat) sorted, man. Did you find out what exactly was wrong with it?

Re: The 59 bridge humbucker, some questions.

No i didn't find the exact cause, first i removed the neck pup. Tested it, noise was still there- neck pickup wasn't the cause.
Pulled out the bridge pup, hooked up the old one, noise was gone.
Maybe there is something loose inside the pup i don't know, anyway i'm glad i found the cause.
These kind of problems can make you throw the guitar out of the window if they last long enough.

I LOVE your Irish accent here! ;)

That's my Dublin tinker accent. Gotta be careful though. If you use it for too long it can take over your brain and befor you know it you're stealing wheels from parked cars and marrying your pregnant cousin.

Cool, man. Let us know how you get on. :friday:
