Re: The '78
Anyone who has tried either the 78 or EVH pup in a Gibson Les Paul Standard???? Seems to me like theese are 2 great pups, don´t forget that Eddie has a powerfull amp that helps alot creating his sound...
Um, the 78 is the EVH - Seymour Duncan has to call it the '78 because Ed doesn't officially endorse it. It's called the EVH for Evenly Voiced Harmonics, just like the JB, which coincidentally, was wound for jeff beck, is known as the jazz/blues. Which is horrendously misleading, next time I hear a jb do jazz (not fusion, think wes montgomery jazz), I'll send it to you guys via flying pigs.
But back to the '78 - although I haven't tried Duncans' version, I had a VHPAF w/ A2 in it, which, according to walt, (haven't seen him in a while, BTW), is essentially a poor man's '78 - he said the VHPAF had more low-mid growl, but that was about the only discernible difference between the two.
I really wish duncan would make the '78 a production pickup. Unfotunately, if he did, sales of the Pearly Gates, Custom series, Screamin Demon would all drop pretty drastically
