The best amp I have ever played...

Andrew Lamprecht

Minion of One
I played one of these at a local shop yesterday...

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rivera-Fandango-55W-2x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=501754

I played it clean, distorted, and then with a big muff... sounded great with all of them!

I loved the overdrive sounds on the amp, I could dial in almost any Zep, Deep Purple, or any classic rock sound I wanted. And it sounded great for blues too. Thick and midrangey. Crunchy like a Marshall but with a more even tone.

Awesome! Now back to business... I have about $30 saved up... someone want to loan me the rest?

:D

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

That looks like a killer amp dude. Never played one, but I hear good things.

Glad to hear you have 30$ saved up. My advice : keep saving up. A great amp that gives you the tone you want is the corner stone of a dream right, imo, more than any guitar you could think of.

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

Yeah, man. Save yo cash and you might get it one day.

Hell, I saved up half the money for my bass rig just by collecting and selling cans. I was about 2-3 years younger than you. It took me about a year and a half to get it. We finally got a show at a decent place and my dad decided to front the difference.

This my bass rig, minus the small cab:

Needs new tubes now that I think about it. :scratchch

Moral of the story is SAVE YO MONEY!

That's a nice looking amp you got there too!

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

Thanx man. She don't see too much action like she did back in the day (with my old band). That said, she'll shake all the windows and s*** in my apartment/the building when I feel like playing some bass.

Never played a Rivera but I'm partial to them since Rivera is my last name. :laugh2:

For 2K it must be pretty good though.

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

I dig my Rivera. Even with an AxeFx, my Rake is pretty safe.

My advice: buy used. With gear like that, people generally take care of things so a used Rivera is likely to be in good shape.

Thanks dude, he is the man, and it was time to retire George.

Anyways, I agree that you should look used. In good condition, it won't cost you anywhere near to full price, and you get your dream amp.

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

it may very well have been the time to retire him, but edgar still doesn't have a cheesteak sandwich like your (second) namesake suggests;)

I'll see if I can work something out eventually. Edgar is still on probation.

Now, back to the thread.

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

I've played a Quiana Studio which is very similar, all be it 1x12, and the cleans on that were just truly great.
Didn't dig the overdrive channel mind, sounded a bit fizzy and nasty for my taste, although it improved by replacing the sovtek tubes with some JJ's, although they didn't stay in as I wanted them back in my Ashdown :)
Pity my sister had to sell it, although it fetched a really good price.

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

I agree....I have one.

Mine is the 55 watt, 1-12 model. I have gotten more compliments on my tone with the Fandango....one from a pro sound man.

I bought mine used for $1000....I could not have afforded a new one. Look for used. Riveras are extremely well built. I use SED Winged C EL-34s in mine...they sound great.

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

I think the best sounding amp I've played is either a bogner ecstasy or a soldano slo 100...or my Orange rockerverb combo 8)

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

i once loved a Fandango myself...but in the end decided it had to many knobs for a dufus like me...lol!

great sounding amp though!!!

and defintely go the used route!!!

Re: The best amp I have ever played...

A guy I know owns two Rivera acoustic amps. We plugged up some Gibson SJ200s and started pickin'. It was amazing. The cleans were bright, had a powerful low end, they had tons of clarity... they were just great. They were probably the finest acoustic amps I have ever played in my life.
