the best JB mods ever.. :)

I can't stand the tone of a stock regular JB. That's me, though. I understand other people like it.

However, when ZMB did his JB comparison video with the Antiquity JB, I found I really liked the tone of that version. The upper midrange spike got moved down a bit and it became more pleasing to my ear.

The Antiquity JB comes with a degaussed A5, right? Polished or rough?

I wonder if he used 250k or 500k pots? I saw that video too, and me playing my JB doesn't sound anything like him. I mean, it's not even close! :)

I just swapped a UOA5 into the JB in my Schecter Baritone Blackjack that came stock with a JB/59 set. It's had 5 days to set up, the mag was roughcast and I have to say, I like it. It really opens up the pickup so as to be able to hear the tone of the wood in the guitar without getting too squishy. I think it might be the poor man's antiquity JB.

Re: the best JB mods ever.. :)

The first time I felt my jaws dropping on the floor was when I tried a LTD 200 or 250 I don't remember, back in 2001. I thought I just felt them dropping but when I looked down on the floor I saw them lying there. That guitar had a Duncan Designed HB-102. It was the best sounding, super clean/clear, cold and polished pure metal distortion I've ever heard. Tight and heavy. It had a studio aura right away, out of the box. The JB was my first aftermarket pickup replacing the stock ones in my Ibanez RG270DX. The tone was just COOL! With every meaning of the word. I replaced it only because I couldn't get a tight low palm muting for classic heavy metal. Other than that it was simply amazing! I remember the guy from the rehearsal studio looking back at my guitar while I was just hitting a chord on it. Then I got into more pickups. The wrong pickups in my opinion, and my ear has been refined as what tone I really like. And finally the JB is one of the pickups that get really damn close to that.
