The blade on the 4-way tele switch isn't tall enough

Snoogles

Cranky-dologist
i have a Jack'o DKMG with rear-mounting pots and switch.
i re-wired the whole thing (long story) with a 4-way genuine fender tele switch, and i guess fender only made the blade on this particular switch tall enough for the metal mounting plate on a telecaster. cuz its too short for the wood face of the jackson that its currently mounted to

so the switch cant fully click into positions 1, and 4

is there another source for a 4-way tele that has a taller blade?

A taller blade won't fix it. It's the width of the slot and of the body is restricting it moving into positon. You'd need a switch with a narrower throw from end to end,
or shallow out the hole from inside the body so the throw can go full distance.

now i'm kind of wondering how the original 3-way switch was able to work.
do 3-ways have a shorter throw?

Not as a matter of course, but the stock switch on that guitar obviously did have a shorter throw, or perhaps a skinnier lever.

Is it at least close? If so, you may be able to carve a little half moon into either side of the lever in the areas that are making contact with the body.

that sounds like a good idea, but putting the cap on the blade makes the switch completely inoperable in the 1st and 4th positions.
