The Bluesbird question

I really dont know if i should change the 59´s on my Bluesbird. I´m just doing it cause I want to split´em and they dont have 4 conductors. I do find the bridge pup a little bright sometimes (lack of mids) and maybe the neck pup is to boomy for me (I dont use it to often, only clean). Any opinions on the PG neck/ custom custom bridge combo? I want to keep the nice and controlled feedback I have. Any ideas?

Welcome!

I changed my 59's to antiquities, though you may just try adjusting the height of the pickups. It sounds from your discription that you have the neck too close to the strings.

If you have adjusted the pickups please disregard my comment.

Another pickup choice i have liked in there were seths. never tried the custom custom.

love it! I am very happy with my ax...I was looking for a LP and I found it. With a Bigsby tremolo on it it´s simply amazing... Killer tone! your tone sounds fine to me

however, if you find the '59 B too bright, then any of the alnico 2 PAF style pickups will do - APH, PG, Seths, or Antiquities

I love the tone of the Seths in my Hamer Artist, but if 59s get edgy for you, then feedback could be a problem with the unpotted Seths, depending on your amp.
Although some players claim they don't feed back, I find they get right on the edge with my tweed Deluxe. Then again, you might just like that.

I'd say a pair of Seths or a pair of Pearly Gates would do the trick for you. If you need a bit more push, the CC would work great with either the Seth or PG at the neck.

I´m installing an "onboard exciter circuit" (check´em out www.guitarfetish.com) to...Maybe I can correct all my 59 problems with this device? Maybe the CC it´s to HOT for it? I´m splitting them to so: wich one is brighter when splitted the CC or my beloved 59?

Honestly, I'd stay away from onboard electronics (aside from EMG's). I think its better to tune the guitar's voice through passive methods (especially if one is seeking a traditional voicing) rather than having to add circuits to compensate.

Split, the 59 will be brighter, but will also be mÐ

I´m planning to use it as a boost only...And what about the CC splitted? Does it sound good in a semihollow? Is this pup a metal-heavy-shread kind of pup?

The CC splits very well and is not a super hot shred pickup by any means. The alnico Ii mags give it a soft response in the bass, round singing highs, and a thick, syrupy midrange.

Its not a PAF clone, but it does have a sort of vintage flavor to it.

Oh yeah, and if you want a good, transparent boost, look at the Duncan Pickup Booster. It's clean and non invasive. Besides, you can use it with all your guitars.

the clips sound great.

I wouldn't add much to the guitar, it sounds too col to add any onboard boost.

I like the CC a bit better than the 59b, but that's just because I love mids and buttery lead tones.

I get rid of any and all boominess on any neck pickup by just lowering the low E-string pole piece. The low E is where most of the boominess comes from.
