I have a few spare pups at the moment though. A 59n, JB, '57 classic, 489t, genuine texas, BBQ and a pair of BB Pros.

I had some regular Fralin PAFs, an 8k/9k set which I found a bit bright in the bridge relative to the neck which I didn't expect.

Reading this thread I would love to try some SH18s. I'm looking on eBay right now.

No, it's really mid friendly for me, and for what I use them for (clean tones and fattening up leads) they go perfect for my style. I suppose that given the way i use them, the Distortion neck pup would be a better fit, but that 59 is so addictive and beautiful. I've been wanting to try a new neck pup for a while, but I've really been having a hard time trying to get away from the 59, even if I think other pickups will be better.

The thing is there is NO SINGLE classic LP sound.

And ok - Seth's are awesome, but:

PG's will do ZZ better
A2's will do Slash better
I assume Whole Lotta Humbucker is more Page.

So they may be very "classic" but there is a better pup for each of those sounds, and the Seths may not do any one of them satisfactorily.

OP's ears have to decide. I'm sticking with:
PG neck is most awesome LP neck pup period overall. Bridge is your call. 59, A2P's and PG's can be mixed-matched for all sorts of greatness. My understanding (from reading here) is that a Seth might be a great neck choice with any of them.

Of course, your experience may vary depending on the specific guitar.

The one in my avatar is Poecilotheria ornata and from Sri Lanka. Not like they grab children and carry them off.

Is this a different spider? Previously you said it was a tigrinawesseli? The pic is too small to really tell.

I used to keep them before I moved to china. A friend of my still has the C. Crawshayi that I left behind. Shes a beautiful animal. Never had any of the more exotic Poelitherias or other asian varieties.

Florida is home to a lot of big @$$ bugs. I have pointed a shotgun at a bug with intention to harm. It is all home to all four poisonous North American snakes. Worry more about the snakes. And the little Spiders, such as Black, Brown, and Red Widows are in abundance. And no - I don't mean Brown recluse. But we have those too. Be sure not to trip into a Widow or a Snake while avoiding Fire ants.

Gibson was just random with PAF's back in the day. Many of the "great" ones are likely A5. But again, could be an A2, A3, A4, A5, underwound, overwound....You never know. I'm pretty sure the Rev Billy G. got a slightly over A2 version, based on the current model.

You never know. If it sounds good - it is good!

There's quite a few threads about PAF style pickups here and on other forums. Duncan uses completely vintage accurate parts and processes for their models and so does a more expensive replica builder.

Something to remember is that PAF are snowflakes and all of them were a little different. None of them were hand wound but the time that the machine would wind seemed to vary as well as the magnets used was pretty random.

Here's the list of the best PAF on the market I'm aware of:

DIMARZIO:
36th anniversary PAF

Models seem to vary in name often but are all PAF

(Used 57/08 if you can find em)

Only the Duncan, Throbak and PRS are wound on the winder that wound the original PAF, IIRC it's called a Leesona 102 Winder. There's debate on if it actually changed the tone of the wind but people who own it say it does in their marketing.

Scatter wound pickups are fairly popular but are not at all vintage accurate and don't let anyone tell you different.

You forgot Gibson BB's (the A2 version). I also think StewMac's Parsons Street PAF's are pretty good, especially for the price.

Probably a good point. I used to sell them and not really into the BB Pro but the BB 1&2 are sweet.
