The Closest "SingleCoil Tone" Humbucker

Re: The Closest "SingleCoil Tone" Humbucker

I think the PAF Joe sounds awesome. I prefer brighter tones in the neck and the PAF Joe delivers very well. I don't use it split it sounds like I want it in series. However with my Les Paul I do have a push/pull I would use sometimes to split it and I have no complaints. It has a good single coil tonality to it IMO but that's with my rig and guitar though.

The Jazz Bridge Model in the neck, split, is pretty darn convincing. It sounds great in humbucking mode too.

I have a LP Goldtop with a Custom/Jazz Bridge combo, and I've got pullup tone pots. It's the most versatile LP set I've ever used, from single coil to humbucking.

Maton humbuckers are amazing when split or in series - i guess they are somewhat like a stag mag. Only thing is that they are a slightly different shape to standard (gibson) style pups.

Re: The Closest "SingleCoil Tone" Humbucker

Lew says he chooses a PU for the humbucker sound and just takes whatever split sound there is. But DrJackson wants just the opposite. He is looking for a hum with the best single coil split sound, hasn't said what he wants the hum to sound like.

Therefore the only answer to his question would be the StagMag. I have this in the bridge of a LP Classic and split/single it sounds as close as you can get to being a Strat single coil sound. My LP has a '57 Classic in the neck and when I split the StagMag and play it with the '57 in parallel (normal both PU setting) it sounds like a Strat in position 2 or 4, depending on amp eq settings of course.

The StagMag is only an average sounding humbucker, but it is a great sounding single.
