The coolest thing Marshall has put out in a while

I may be late to the party on these, but damn they're cool.

i saw a while back that Marshall did some "tattoo inspired" cabs, but apparently they've expanded on that. They have a whole line of JVMs with custom tolex and grillcloths.

While they are all cool, I'm mostly impressed by the mini-stack JVM-1H.

It looks so damn cool in that little Plexi style head cabinet. Plus it sounds incredible!

I can only find them here: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Search/Default.aspx?internal=1&browser=&fsrc=marshall%20custom%20tattoo%20jvm-1h&src=marshall%20custom%20tattoo%20jvm-1h

I really want one now. It would be the most *****in' practice amp, ever. Anyone else seen these, or perchance got one?

I have lots of ink and to me tattoos can be beautiful or incredibly tacky (I do belive mine are nice but I'm biased a bit of course)... To me that stuff looks like an uneducated dude on the bus with a reall huge oversized Ed Hardy shirt, ed hardy hat talkin' about buying loads of sudafed for his second cousin who'll turn it into an investment...

Re: The coolest thing Marshall has put out in a while

I dunno... In the US Ed Hardy stuff is played out Marshall is about 4 years too late trying to cash in on the craze now, and sadly thats all that it is, a cash grab.

The designs could have been done better nothing drives me up a wall more than a graphic artist rendering traditional tattoo designs without knowing why they were done like that. The classic stuff from like Bert Grimm people think its simple and stupid but the reality is that it isnt. Its the line and how the line plays to the eye. To me these are like someone taking a Picasso and attempting to repaint it with proper proportions.

Haha very true. I guess I sould have specified what I thought was cool was the head alone. I love the mini Plexi look, and the fact that it actually sounds good. I could take or leave the designs. Unfortunately the designs are responsible for that price tag, and I don't like that much.

Please dont get me wrong. If you dig it and your into it thats ok with me I was just giving my opinion on the amps. Please dont think I was trying to run down your opinion or anything.

But i agree the price is nuts I dig the tone but damn for that price.... to me its about 30% too high.

No its cool I definitely get what you're saying. I agree, if they ditch the graphics so the price uphike isn't quite so drastic I'd probably consider buying one.

Re: The coolest thing Marshall has put out in a while

If they made "adult" versions of that little 1w 2ch JVM with the same stripped down controls in 50w and 100w with EL34s THAT would be the best thing Marshall has made since the JCM800. That's all they need, the next step in the simple 1 or shared EQ very simple 2 channel amp that can do a more modern high gain when compared to an 800 or 900. The other JVMs are far too bloated with too many knobs and buttons.

Re: The coolest thing Marshall has put out in a while

Thought #1 - I agree that several of the designs are tacky.
Thought #2 - I agree that the price hike is excessive.
Thought #3 - Perhaps, a better marketing strategy would have been to make the graphic grilles available as an aftermarket accessory, in sizes to fit the majority of popular cabinet formats.

Now that I'm on board with. I kinda liked the Vintage Modern's layout being single channel, but the dumb purple LEDs ruined it. I'd like to see a full size version of this:

Exactly, a 50w and 100w version of that little guy with the same simple controls and an FX loop. That would be the first new Marshall I'd consider buying.

Re: The coolest thing Marshall has put out in a while

I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't buy it. It looks better than many of the 'do it yourself' painted grills I've seen. The images I like most are Mexican skull art.

As for new Marshalls.... When I can mine Craigslist for pre 95 classics all day long for very reasonable prices, it kills any desire I have for an expensive new non-British Marshall.

Orange is everywhere now. Marshall needs to step up their game before British amps from other companies work for cheaper and knockoff M-sound amps do it well enough to ignore the original.

I've always loved Marshall, but they always seem to hit left and right of center.

And what the hell is going on with their crappy new tolex? They cheapened the look so badly with that shiny new tolex they're using. All they had to do was continue using the same stuff they always used. And the knobs all feel like push on knobs over plastic pots.

These are the days when anyone with money should be buying up vintage Marshalls. Modern Marshalls are turning to crap, just like I expected since Jim passed away.

Re: The coolest thing Marshall has put out in a while

It's a shame, but let's be honest... The best Marshall amps were made when they were a small boutique and the quality dropped as the brand gained momentum. They stopped selling amps players wanted and started selling overpriced solidstate crap (MODE4?!), ****ty practice amps, Bluetooth speakers, mini-fridges... But first and foremost, their logo and their brand.

Meanwhile, passionate artists around the world made better amps for people who play guitar.

I thought this thread was gona be about the class 5
Actually that's how I found these, was looking into the Class 5 combos. The Class 5 is a rare example of something they've done just about perfect; It's simple, sounds great, and was affordable. Maybe If more people had bought them they'd still be around.
