The crossroads!! What pickup!?!

Re: The crossroads!! What pickup!?!

Hey! has anyone ever heard of the Epiphone ProBucker or the Hotch/Ch57 pickups?

Probuckers are decent PAF's, a huge upgrade over the Hotch/Ch57's they used to use. They got so many complaints about those over the years ('Mudbuckers'), in 2010 they decided to start replacing them with Probuckers and Alnico Classic Pros. You could look for a deal on a used set of Probuckers.

Re: The crossroads!! What pickup!?!

I dunno if this is crazy but I've been listening to clips of the 57/57+ classics and I really like it!!

Remember, clips are very deceiving. They're using different guitars, woods, effects, amps, tubes, speakers, etc than you're using. Plus the kind of mic and mic placement changes the tone. It can be difficult, if not impossible, for you to be able to duplicate the tones you hear on clips. Don't buy a PU based on sound clips.

Videos can give you a good generalization about a pickup but definitely don't buy one just off of a sound clip...

Re: The crossroads!! What pickup!?!

Honestly, for me, a clip of a pickup where it's not being compared to any other pickup that I'm familiar with tells me almost nothing about how it sounds. Maybe that's just me.

Re: The crossroads!! What pickup!?!

Ultimately it all comes down to what your ears are telling you (and for making money/a happy audience then what your listeners like. lol)

Hahaha!! Yes definitely what the audience likes!! Don't wanna be wearing tomatoes or rotten eggs haha

You know, i didn't think about that. Food for thought...

Re: The crossroads!! What pickup!?!

Well after a few months of working on my guitar here is the finished project. I added a maple top, got some Probuckers with the CTS push/pulls I even was able to score that Marshall amp! The he dude just traded me for my Epiphone Studio 10s!! Gotta say I'm pretty happy with the results and in total including the original purchase of the guitar it came in at a bit over $300... Oh and I went with an aluminum tailpiece
