Cheap parts, IMO. Printed circuit board. Mexican made capacitors, etc. They sound good...not great. Same is true for most if not all of the new Fender amps. Better speakers and tubes might help...but really, they need a complete recap with quality Sprague or Mallory caps, etc. to sound great. Lew

Like the old mechanics used to say---jack up the Fender logo and slide a '68 SF Twin underneath. They sound OK, but every single PCB Fender product I've used snce the mid-90's has had reliability problems sooner or later. Some people have had better luck, but that just suggests bad QC. It's your money...

It's not that they sound bad...they don't. They sound very good. But they will never be the equal of a blackface Twin because the parts and constrction are cheaper. Personally, I'd look for a non-master volume silverface Twin and have it "blackfaced", recapped, re-tubed and fixed up.
You'll have a better amp, IMO.

i bought a late 70s twin reverb amp. I think I prefer the older ones compared to the newer ones .. perhaps its just phychology

Lew, I just bought a used Blues Junior at Music-Go-Round. It does sound great but it is cheaply made as you stated. I put new tubes in it - a 5751 in V1, a Mesa 12AX7 in V2, and a electro-hammerick 12AX7 in V3. These tubes quieted the amp down, losened it up, and fattend it up. Should I take the amp to you brother and have him redue the caps and other upgrades? It has a nice Jensen speaker in it.

I bought one of those from Monty, Madonna's guitarist. Like others have said, it's sterile, clean, and not very inspiring to plug into it. It's not a bad amp, but it doesn't have the richness and complexity of old Fenders and boutiques.
I used mine about 4 times, then sold it for the same amount I paid for it.

If you mean the "evil twin" with the channel switching crap, they suck.
If you're looking at new Fenders at least look at the blackface reissues... but I suggest a used 70s silverface and then you can fairly cheaply get it "blackfaced".

I had one, the one with the 2 channels and the 25w switch. It just wasn't working for me. I returned it and got a Hot Rod Deluxe and was happy for a while just like that.
Some of the 65 RI's are nice, but too much moeny to fix 'em
I might Black up a Silverface, but I have yet to play a SF I have ever liked. I have loved many a Black Face, never loved a Silver face. They are soo inconsistent. I had a chance to buy one with JBL's for 400 but it sounded stiff to me.
I still prefer them with some kinda speaker change.
If you have a lot of money, I like the Victoria's I have played.
