A question

In your opinion

How does the Alnico 2 pro humbucker tone compare to the Custom Custom tone,

In

Cleans,

Overdrive

Distortion

High Gain

2) can I just lower the CC height to get a Alnico 2 pro like tone, to not justfy the expense of another bridge humbucker

2) And which is versatile for most applications,

thanks for the replies,

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

A2P is way less compressed than the CC and more balanced.

Lowering the pickup will not remove the compression inherent in the wind off the CC. The CC is fatter, and slower sounding than the A2P.

Personally, I think that the A2P is a much better pickup overall. If you want a really fat pickup to drive your amp, the CC gets the nod solely in the output area, but in all other areas, the A2P wins in my book.

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

The thing about the CC is it has to be put in the right guitar. It will sound like a million bucks in one guitar and like complete crap in another. i have my LP with both A2P's (neck and bridge) and they are pretty loose sounding with a very spongy bass. Very smooth over all and very sweet sounding.......but they can get pretty nasty too. My kramer baretta has a the CC in it and it kicks A** in that guitar. the CC is not as loose sounding as the A2Pro, but it's also twice as hot. They have a similar sound in that they are pretty smooth sounding. the CC has a greater mid spike than the A2Pro. Both are very good pups (in the right guitar)

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

for clean and slight overdrive I would have to give to the A2Pro, but mid to high over drive, distortion and high gain i would have to give to the CC. In my baretta, the CC does van halen VERY well!

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

To my ears the CC has no highs at all (in a Les Paul). Creamy, maybe, but I don't generally like dairy products either. I suppose it needs a Floyd to wake up.

The APH1b is a bright, roary bridge pickup that can let too much treble through but is hard to beat if that is what you want. One of my all-time favorites.

that is exactly why i put the CC in my baretta. works great with a floyd and the bright nature of a strat style body. (My baretta is made out of solid maple)

guys

1) for you which is more versatile,

2) does the Alnico 2 pro mush out more than the CC in high gain if you dont have a tight amp

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

Bryan,

Are you perhaps setting up a guitar website, with lots of information on pickups, guitar woods etc...............?

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

No, just getting as much info as I can :D

bec next week, I am going to be very busy, :drive:

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

These pups are totally different creatures. Comparison is really inappropriate.

A2P = vintage sweet top PAF
CC = hot mega-mid boost

They both have sweet highs - that's it.

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

Driving? :wrf:

If you get around to putting some pups in guitars, let us know how it goes! :)

Just busy next week bec,

practice slalom racing with a friend :drive:

and long dates with my girlfriend :D

thanks for the replies,

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

personally, when put up against the CC, i find that the A2pro does tend to get a tad muddy (not too bad tho) under high gain. But then again the CC is twice as hot as the A2pro. But like Diocletian said, we all have different guitars (wood), amps, playing styles, fingers and ears......what might work for somebody might not work for somebody else. you can sit here and listen to us give you advise all day long, but in the end you're just gonne have to try it out for yourself. Just my opinion though, I like the A2pro for clean and low to mid overdrive stuff and the CC for high overdrive and high gain stuff and maybe if i want a clean that still has a little dirt to it. But u give them a try and tell us what you think

Re: the custom custom bridge vs alnico 2 pro humbucker,

Yes I know that theres just too many variables, guitar shapes, guitar woods, amps, strings, cables, playing technique, tone preference,

Just wanting your opinion on your own guitar and setup :)

thanks for the info guys,

A2pro- original PAF with some modern touches. They have evenly wound coils, so they have very smooth and creamy sounding. beautiful cleans and very articulate and defined overdriven and even higher gain (to a point) sound. They are low output, so you can back off your guitar's volume knob when playing with gain and get a nice clean. When on the neck HB, you can roll off your tone knob all the way and get a real sweet "voice" like tone. they are my favorite humbuckers for a les paul

CC- PAF tone with more "balls." Like the A2pro, it has evenly wound coils. Smooth and even sounding, but with a touch more edge. great bluesy tone when clean. on overdriven, it has a very EVH type sound. Smooth highs and round, loose bass. It has strong mids, so it is a very FAT sounding humbucker. Great pickup for super strats w/ a floyd rose. My Favorite humbucker for super strats (other than the '78)
