The Death of Piezo "Quack" on Acousic Guitars?

Re: The Death of Piezo "Quack" on Acousic Guitars?

HOw would this work, or would it even be necessary, with something like the Mag Mic?

Actually, it works quite well with a Mag Mic. There are two input filters designed for magnetic pickups. In fact, the Italian-guy was using it with a Fishman Rare Earth which is a magnetic pickup.

However, you want to dial back the mic portion.

Just yesterday, I was demonstrating both the Mag Mic and Mama Bear to a local singer-songwriter duo called Antara & Delilah. They used them both together and, I think, they were blown away by the sound.

so is it just a specialized EQ? Any compression going on at all? I can't really tell what the knobs do...
It's not standard EQ. It's what we call "3-D EQ." Regular EQ takes two things into consideration: frequency and amplitute. But one of the things that makes an acoustic guitar sound the way it does is the way the note blooms over time. The way an acoustic guitar makes its tone is a very complex thing.

3-D EQ takes into consideration frequency, amplitude and TIME.

That's why you're hearing what you're hearing. There's no specialized EQ. You're hearing the subject's guitar played "through" one of the target instruments. Any compression you're hearing is the natural compression found in the target instruments.

If you really want the low-down on Mama Bear, download the Manual. It explains everything.

Sorry to revive an old topic, but where can you get a Mama Bear? I can't find anybody online who carries them... Thanks!

Hmm, may have to give this a try in the studio. A lot of times we've been pressed for time and didn't have the time to do a nice mic setup for an acoustic guitar track and we ended up going direct through a tube preamp with the acoustic pickup. This would sure help things out a bit.
