The Demon 8

Hey, can someone give me a few details on the perceived EQ of the Demon 8 compared to the Demon 5?

Is it still semi scooped or more mid-heavy like the ALT 8? How much is the output boosted?

Thinking about putting one in the bridge position of my Warmoth.

Re: The Demon 8

Dunno about alnico VIII, but just changin the hex poles to standard fillisters bumps up the mids a bit and shaves off just a bit of the highs without giving up the ultra tight low end or the low mid growl.

Re: The Demon 8

With alnico 8 the Demon is even more punchy , loud , tight , harmonicaly rich , with more mids and rounder highs . :fing2:

Suddenly everyone starts to swap their V's fpr 8's.
What's up ? one year ago i was told that the "alnico 8 is not very popular because..."
An now it's the coolest magnet and makes every pickup sound better...

Should i buy a few of these magnets ?

Re: The Demon 8

Well alnico 8 is not for everybody , it is more modern and loud than aln5 .
But the best way to know is to try .

People were also naysaying the idea of a ceramic JB or swapping hex poles in an Invader. I was up to the challenge and proved them wrong. :D Where are these people now I wonder?

Its all subjective I suppose.

What sounds good to one person can sound horrible to another.

I love the Demon, its easily my favorite bridge pup. I have it in two guitars, one is a mahogany/rosewood Schecter with a 25.5 scale. Sounds awesome in that guitar. The other is a Korina/Ebony Warmoth with a 24.75 scale. Its perhaps a bit too bright in that guitar. I still like it, but I want to like it more. lol

I was hoping that the A8 would help the pup fit that guitar a little better, while still acting like a Demon.

BTW. Does A6 and A7 even exist?

Look how long a2 and a5 magnets have ruled! My guess is they will still be the most popular 20 yrs from now. A8 might catch on. It might even be widespread for a while but in the end it will all come back to a2 & a5.

I think A2 and A5 are sort of standard. Its hard to go wrong with them, and they almost always sound good, but at the same time you never really go "Wow that sounds really unique" when you hear them.

Re: The Demon 8

Well, to my ears at least, A8 just sounds... hot. It makes notes kind of jump off the fretboard, so to speak, but I feel like it's more a result of compression. Still a cool magnet though, I still like to keep one around in case the situation calls for it (I'd say in a 'shredder' axe if I ever get one)

A2 and A5 are easier to make and cheaper than A8 ,
this explains the wide use .

But A8 has qualities that makes it usefull , like a tonefull ceramic .

Now if you want to stick with "tradition" and even never try A8
it is up to you .

A8s sound like that because they are just as powerful if not more powerful than ceramics.

Re: The Demon 8

Yeah, I kinda figured when I was getting string pull problems in the bridge of my les paul, which seemed kinda ridiculous to me. I've heard of people using it in the neck though, so it may have been the particular magent I got. Also, I like it alot more in fender style (25.5" scale, alder body, maple neck, etc.) guitars than gibson style. More balanced, a 59/custom with A8 sounded almost exactly like a phat cat, but with more of everything, kind of like a phat cat + boost pedal + tighter bottom end.

Re: The Demon 8

I feel the alnico 8 magnet will let the pickup really shine through. Granted I have only tried it with the Full Shred, there is a massive difference. Like switching to a different kind of shoe. Ok, maybe not, maybe so. I think the A5 is still far crunchier and more aggressive sounding, negating output. The alnico 8 definitely sounds more modern to me, but I believe it has a degree of clarity that should be present in all passive pickups. This could be Seymour's masterful ears and skill at work, but who knows.

I'm gonna make it into my LP soon. Sounds promising!
