The dillema: Fender custom shop or Suhr?

So I have saved my pennies and am looking to get a good ax

went a couple weeks ago to a great music store and found a really nice fender custom shop strat with American bridge. 9.5 radius neck medium jumbo 22 frets in s/s/s config with flame maple neck alder body
it sounded awesome

I am going to try some suhrs this weekend and want an alder bodied c2 guitar

now the dillema is that guitars all differ even from the same maker in tone
at the store I went to they had two guitars like the one I liked but one sounded better than the other. I would have bought it right there and them but I can get suhr to make me one with specs that I want


this would be an unfinished maple neck and hum s s config with a slightly flatter radius

the problem us that I wouldn't be able to hear it until I get it but all the suhrs I have tried have all been consistently great

What to do?

I just love unfinished maple necks and the finish fender uses is kinda thick feeling

but like I said the fender I tried sang.

I'm gonna try a suhr C2 which is the closest I will get to the exact same fender specs and see which one is more resonant. Because the suhrs beat fender in playability which is super important as well.
So I'm gonna see which one speaks to me more as design and fit as well as tone

IMO, they will both sound great so playability should be key here. It looks lie you will like the Suhr more because of unfinished neck and flat radius fretboard. Try the C2 and if you like it go for it.

Buy the one you had your flippers on. Everything else is a gamble. Wood doesn't obey commands.

I know, there is just something about playing something before you buy, you know exactly what you will be getting.
I guess the deciding factor will be the tone of the suhr I will try and how addictive it is.

The fender was pretty addictive but the playibility could have been better

Wood doesn't obey commands is right and that fender custom shop sang and the price was LOW. Lower than 2k !

If you love the tone of the Srat, then why are you considering going with a Humbucker in the bridge? To me this is a completely different guitar!

What exactly do you mean by playability. A proper setup can sure it maybe?
Fretwork on high end fender are amazing. I setup my MIA tele and it plays as good as Jackson. Action might even be lower on my tele. It depends on your taste.

Yeah a good setup would definitly make it play easier
just an unfinished neck and a flatter radius..,,,

I played the guitar acoustically that is what I meant by tone. I don't need to plug it in to see how awesome it sounds. It's better to hear it uncolored and acoustically first

Search the Bay Area Craigslist daily, till a $2800 Fender CS or Suhr pops up for $1500.
Be patient and have the money ready.
