The Dimarzios are working better than I thought they would

Recently put in a PAF Pro in the neck along with a Super Distortion in the bridge. I'm very happy. I tried the Super Distortion in one of my Strats long time ago and it sounded bad. Very buzzy. I think I may have also tried the full size humbucker version in a previous Les Paul and I still thought it was buzzy.

But now the pickup sounds excellent in this Les Paul. Not buzzy at all.

And the PAF Pro has a much more translucent, clear quality than the '59 did. Much better for my neck solos.

I also have a Distortion neck version which I'm gonna keep in storage and probably install much later down the road. I love to experiment with pickups.

You picked some staples of the DiMarzio catalog. They should sound great together.

Have you tried the PAF Pro as a bridge/neck set?

If by "Distortion neck model" you mean you have a Super 2, you should try it with the Super D. It is a great combo.

I personally really dig the PAF Pro as a bridge pickup in basswood.

The PAF Pro is definitely one of my all time favorite neck pickups for soloing! It begs for gain, but never gets muddy or harsh...

The DiMarzio PAF Pro was a nice surprise when I re-visited it. I'd not played it since they were stock in the old JEMs and early Paul Gilbert model Ibbys. I had it in the bridge when I checked out a DiMarzio Bluesbucker in the neck and that was a super versatile pairing.
