My PRS C-24 arrived today. Got it shipped overnight cos I knew with the cold weather it may end up a mess on a long trip in a truck.
Initial impressions:
Very pretty blue color. Dark blue. Has some decent figure...def not a 10 top, but better than I expected. Black pups..Black coils. Methinks the guitar needs some contrast as the headstock is all very dark too, and doesn't have light colored binding. Might swap the pup rings for creme color just to break it up or go with some nickel cover pups eventually. I didn't really go over it with a fine tooth comb, but it's looking quite flawless from initial inspection.
Very low action with just a slight hint of buzz..since it's cold though I'll give it some time to warm up and see what happens. I have a heavy picking hand and noticed when I eased up a bit,the buzz stopped completely. I need to /have been working on lightening up my technique anyway.
Played it for about 30 minutes through my Valvetronix 30 watter. Sounded great on every model, and every PUP position. First guitar out of the last 5 that will do that. Even sounds awesome on the UK mod and Soldano channels which just haven't sounded very good to my ears w/ my other guitars. Can't wait to run it through my MESA. Pickups sound great to me...I was a bit concerned with the HFS, but so far, so good. Kinda like a Custom without as much low mids. Neck position pup is great too, very warm, yet articulate. Much better than the crap that was on my old one.
Sustain is excellent. Better than my heritage HC150 had..which surprised me, and no comparison compared to my Fender and Wolfgang. Guitar just sings.
Tremelo rocks..just like I remember...fenderish type sound, but smoother..very easy to use, stays in tune.
Hang tag says I have "standard" neck profile, but it feels really good. Not too wide, and not too fat, though it is fairly rounded. Birds and fretboard are gorgeous.
Gotta get used to that rotary switch again though..feels wierd....
So far so good...I'll be puttin it through the paces in the next several days, but don't regret not getting the Les Paul..at least right now
