the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

I called one time to ask about an Ibanez replacement neck and he picked up the phone while eating food, wasn't too impressed.

Apparently, he does a lot of that. Look at that pouch he's toting around!

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

Holy crap, seriously?

I mean I thought it was a joke at first but the more I watched the further my jaw dropped as I gawked at the arrogant ranting of someone completely ignorant of the fact that nobody likes and or believes any of the non-sense that comes out of their mouth.

"What he just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in his rambling, incoherent response was he even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." -The Principal from Billy Madison

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

Didn't you author a particular website on the subject of a one Monseigneur Román? That was as amusing as it was informative, IIRC.

Around the time the dude started getting kicked in the bum at NAMM is when my opinion of him shifted to a sort of detached sympathy - the same kind you feel for someone whom you don't really care for but know is a pretty paranoid, miserable person..

I've never dealt with him so I can't speak to his integrity, but I do have some moral objections to his blatant bagging on/ripping off of the better-known boutique luthiers out there. His McNauckoffs are pretty shameful and the stunt he pulled with Baker is about as low as it gets..

I laughed my ass off when I came across that a year ago :chairfall

I totally had the same initial reaction.

Ya'll are crackin' me up... I knew you'd love it.

There's just so much there... oh gawd... what a trainwreck. hahaha

Maybe we should move this thread to the utoob comments section eh?

Or 'ya think that treasure of a video would be deleted faster then a pizza with his favorite toppings?!

What happened at NAMM?

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

^^ very literally that, RacerX from the JCF kicked him in the keester :D

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

I do give ED Roman credit for this:

Fender was putting out the first SRV Stratocasters with "supposed" solid alder body. Ed cut one in half and showed the alder veneer over poplar.

Fender was embarrassed to say the least.

I wish I had the dough to cut up a 1700 dollar guitar.

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

Do you think he paid that much for it?

One weird thing about him is that he reacts very strongly to what he perceives to be dishonesty from other guitar makers.

If I remember right dealer cost is about 600, but I'm not a dealer.

I believe he reacts very strongly to dishonestly to make himself seem like a knight in shining armor. If he pokes holes in everyone else's manufacturing techniques and what they're doing wrong, then he **** comes off smelling like roses. It comes off more of a high school dogging to me than anything.

I'd much rather here a company say "Those guys make great stuff, but like everyone have their flaws. But, if you're looking for a different style/sound/look/feature/whatever, we've got some pretty good stuff"

I always thought it was because he was just crazy enough to believe it?

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

He's an ass, I visited his original Las Vegas shop and was not impressed. I see him at NAMM every year too and always try to snap a quick pic for the boards. And in his defense, I bet his playing is no worse than half the people on this board.

Dang it, folks, I could play worse than him. LOL

Then again I don't post it on the toobs for everyone to see while trying to sell my guitar. Apparently Paul Reed Smith is no virtuoso and he know it but he can hold his own but do you see him doing his own ads?

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

I know that he absolutely hates the PRS McCarty, he tore into it on his site... I love mine, it'd be flawless if it ws neck thorugh

Actually, after seeing PRS at the Dallas Guitar Show this year demo a Starla, I'd have to say his playing is 10 times better than Ed Romans.

Re: the Ed Roman Quicksilver demo

I'd never heard of this guy until I read this thread. I've now watched his video, looked at his site and read most of the reviews on HC. On a number of occasions he has said that, if you think his guitars sound and play bad, it's your own fault for not being a good enough player - how would he know ? His own playing is laughably bad. The guitar demonstration is one of the most ridiculous spectacles I've ever seen. First off I would NEVER buy a guitar from a maker who can't even tune his own guitar. So he plays an out of tune guitar with strings 5 months old through a really crap amp because 'it wouldn't be fair to play it through a good amp'. I can only conclude that he wouldn't have the guts to put this through a decent amp because it would still sound awful. It can sound like a tele, an SG, 335 etc - what crap, it sounds like a £60 guitar at best. On his own site he rants about HC being unfair to him because it's owned by a big corporation. By this token every other independent guitar maker would have nothing but bad reviews which is simply not the case. Reading the HC reviews is sheer joy because it is so easy to spot the glowing reviews posted by Ed himself. His arrogant self importance is unmistakable. I'm amazed that this guy is still in business.
