Yes I think why get an 85 in the bridge when you can get an 89? Almost identical pickup in the humbucker mode, some forum bros said it themselves, and you would be able to have your "single coil revenge" and eat it too!! :jester:

I installed them back in 1992 on my fave Telecaster after going through a slew of pickups. They were an attractive option because of the low-noise and the output. Saw alot of cats with EMGs on Strats that got great sound so I figured "why not?"
My experience was just very negative. Six months after installing them the guitar mostly gathered dust. For the next decade I played it MAYBE once or twice a year. Finally a few years ago I snapped after trying to record a good solid Blues sound with it and couldn't get anything even remotely listenable with them.
Went with a total gutting of the electronics and went with Duncans. Immediately the guitar became a tone monster.
I don't sell EMGs short. I fully realize that for alot of folks they're a fantastic pick. And there's enough of them out there to vouch for this.
But for me any my again fave Tele they're just pure and utter poison.
