The ENGL Screamer 50 Head

I read reviews on the Peavey JSX on harmony central, and some people mentioned that it is kind of a lead amp(since joe satriani plays most lead).

To be honest I don't care too much about lead tone, rhtyhm is the most important. I came across good reviews on the ENGL Screamer 50 Head.
Have any of you tried it? It costs 50% less than the JSX so it would save some money.

Re: The ENGL Screamer 50 Head

I have the ENGL Thunder combo 50. Sorry, I haven't tried the Screamer so I can't tell. The Thunder has great dirty and clean tones both for rythm and soloing. People thinks this amp it's more biased towards the hard side but it's wrong, it has a warm clear channel which it's great. And the building quality it's great too, I can tell cause i've opened it. :D

Rhythm tone? Lead tone?
I'm afraid I don't subsribe to that particular theory. I use the same tone for both rhythm and leads, just with a boost added fer solos.

As far as Engl is concerned, I've played almost all of their heads, but I couldn't tell you one from the other, as that was a couple years ago. (And despite what people think, the ear has no memory. It is impossible to remember what something sounds like)

I do have an Engl preamp, tho, and I love it. I use it in combination with a Marshall power amp. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I think Engl makes great stuff, tho.

Re: The ENGL Screamer 50 Head

I've played the 1x12 combo.

It's safe to say that if that amp had a second 12 inch speaker in there, and seperate EQ's, I'd be in debt right now. It sounds great, but the shared EQ's is something you'll have to watch out for if it's an issue for you, afaik they are also on the head.

Re: The ENGL Screamer 50 Head

I am going to buy the 1X12 combo as my main practice/jamming amp. I haven't actually got to play this model yet but have heard tons of sound clips. It is a great little amp from what I can tell. I can't believe a Peavey is more expensive. I wouldn't pay $500 for that JSX head but am going to spend twice that (USD) for the Screamer 50. In terms of quality I guantee Engl kills Peavey.
