The Eric Johnson Strat sounds great!

I got my Eric Johnson Strat back from my technician today. Plugged it into my POD X3 on my Marshall JCM-900 preset that I made and loved the sound. Those Eric Johnson pickups have a warm, thick, sweet sound to them. They sound thicker than the Custom Shop 69s do. The 69s have more of a Hendrix-Trower tone to them and they have more chime.

The Eric Johnson pickups don't really sound glassy as much as they sound sweet and warm and thick.

Now I got two kickass Strats. What a feeling...

I don't own a digital camera. Just a 35mm Nikon film camera. My Strat is two-tone sunburst with that aged maple neck. I'm coming to the conclusion though that I prefer non-lacquered guitars. Lacquer seems like an obsolete and inferior finish. It can get marked up and stained by straps and guitar stands if you don't take precautions. I took a clean white cotton T-Shirt and wrapped it on my guitar stand on the contact points so my lacquered guitar won't get marked up by the chemicals in the stand.

And if it's hot and sticky like it is now here and you sweat the neck feels kinda sticky too.

You can't be serious...Over $200 for a block that isn't even steel? Over $300 for the entire assembly? What on earth...

basing much on the '69 is a little misleading, they are great pups but are some of the cleanest, brightest, thinest (not in a bad way though) pup you can find.

as far as the bridge, eh cool stuff can be expensive.

The EJ strat is really nice
would have bought one but the neck is too thick for me

Why spend that kind of money on a block or a bridge that is made of a lighter material than steel?

That's a great strat. I remember when they first came out I really wanted to buy one. I still do, but the price has gone up on them. And I don't play strats much. Still, great guitar! Just feels....right.

The EJ Strat is one of the nicest Fenders. I'm not ready to give up any of my G&Ls yet, but if I had to buy a Fender, that one might be at the top of my list.

evan, what pickups in yours? stock? SD production? SD custom shop? other?
did you play it with the stock trem assembly before switching to the titanium? if so, can you give us your impressions of how the trem changed the overall tone/feel?

Sorry to go off topic here. When I got the guitar from Seymour, it had Seymour-built Antiquity Texas Hots in the neck and middle (RW/RP) and a Twangbanger in the bridge. Seymour builds his Twangbangers with flat poles. Seymour wound the pickups in his home workshop, not here at the factory.

Seymour built an identical guitar for himself at the same time. Same reliced EJ body and Fender Custom Shop neck. He used a vintage style Fender bent steel saddle bridge on his. My titanium bridge is lighter and more resonant. It has a certain upper-mid range chime and sustain that the steel bridge doesn't have. We have a machinist here at SD who makes some of the titanium parts for Michael DeTemple. I had been hearing about the benefits of titanium from him and from my brother-in-law who works for Michael DeTemple, so I had to try it. You can hear and feel the difference.

But you're right, it's pricey. Even with the brother-in-law discount...

So another words it adds some clarity to the overall sound?? I m guessing it doesn't make it sound too bright?
