The Extended Range Guitar Appreciation Thread

Re: The Extended Range Guitar Appreciation Thread

For 250 bucks, absolutely amazing. Even for 2 or 3 times that there`s nothing I can really pick fault at... Not sure how teh pickups hold up under high gain because they got torn out relatively soon, but they sounded ok.

5 years ago or so I`d have expected to pay at least 7-800 new for a guitar this well made.

My next seven will almost certainly be either a soloist or I`ll build something myself.

Re: The Extended Range Guitar Appreciation Thread

I just got a Dean ML 8 string, I'm still trying to find the right amp settings or maybe a pedal that'll give me a good downtuned Korn type tone

Re: The Extended Range Guitar Appreciation Thread

I've been jonesing for a baritone lately, but too many are geared towards typical low tuned metal styles aesthetically, and I could never warm up to the feel of a 7-string or 8-string neck.

Re: The Extended Range Guitar Appreciation Thread

I tuned my 8 string today up so it's tuned to G-C-F-Bb-Eb-G-C-F, I like it better this way.

I had toyed around with tuning it F#-B-E-A-D-F#-B-E for chord reasons. The normal tuning makes using all 8 strings for normal voiced chords rather difficult, the 8th string being tuned to F# throws it off. Tosin Abasi's solution of tuning the F# to E is kind of bland IMO. Tuning the G to F# creates a set up more like a six string tuned down to B, then an extra low and and extra high. Better for chords, and also lends for interesting scale shapes. It's a bit more intuitive than simply adding more lows for the sake of deeper chugs, makes you think of it as more of it's own instrument. I then also tuned it up the half step because I felt the low F# was a bit overkill for riffs, and tuning up tightened up the tone of the string a little bit. I tuned the rest of the guitar accordingly, switches up what keys are easily available so that's another plus.
