The fabled AC/DC Sound has risen again from the ashes....

Re: The fabled AC/DC Sound has risen again from the ashes....

The tone isn't bad and this may just be the recording coming through, but I hear a distinct lack of mids or bass in your tone. Not to say that you didn't have the amp dialed in correctly, but from my point of view, i don't hear it.

I had my GE-7 set so it would cut a bit of the mids out, as the Valvestate is a very middy amp.. It had enough bass and treble. It may just be your speaker source? On my crappy beige speakers it sounds fine.

I'm hearing a very bright, very trebly guitar tone coming through. I still hear a lack of bass through my monitors. I left my studio headphones at school, but tomorrow I'll give this a listen to and hear what it sounds like.

Re: The fabled AC/DC Sound has risen again from the ashes....

"No pedals."

...Isn't the GE-7 a pedal?

I think part of it is how much reverb there is in the recording. It's not so bad on the leads (or even good), but it's a bit problematic on rhythms. Are you still recording with your iPad? It would sit better with more midrange though (it usually sounds like too much with the amp on it's own, but trust everyone else when they say it'll sit better). What you could do is kick in the GE-7 with your mid-cut setting whenever you're playing rhythm behind lead vocals (to give them more space in a mix). Although that doesn't really happen with Let There Be Rock (so for future reference), that'd be a useful time to cut mids, but turn the EQ off to regain midrange for rhythms and especially leads. The guitar's low end was fine - Bon Scott era AC/DC guitar tones don't have that much low end at all compared to the amount of mids and treble.

But this again: Don't blame other people's listening equipment (unless they're judging a mix on something like an iPhone's built in speaker - then don't listen to what they have to say until they listen on anything else). A great mix is supposed to sound great on great equipment, and ok/good on not-so-great equipment. Example: Metallica's ...And Justice For All (while I love the album) admittedly has a bad mix - on some equipment it sounds like piss hitting an empty trash can, and on other equipment it sounds full and heavy. It's supposed to sound good on nearly anything.

It could be that I was listening for bass guitar and not hearing it. If this was indeed recorded by iPad, then that may give me a good idea of what's going on. The iPad's microphone is just not equipped to handle the range of frequencies required for a high quality music recording. The damn speakers on them can barely reproduce half the frequencies required for high quality music playback.

It was recorded using my $40 condenser and Audacity on my PC, also using a let there be rock backing track

Here we go again...

I am keeping this. Thank you.

S***! I didn't see I had a typo in there until now: Sometimes *it* sounds like piss hitting an empty trash can.

It sounds like a small diaphragm condenser. I'm guessing it's also a USB mic? Work on getting a proper mic and interface. My offer is still on the table.

Fabled? Risen from Ashes? Again with the crappy speakers?

Bit sloppy mate. Sometimes several seconds of the guitar tripping over and doing nothing. You need a good mic an interface. Can you hear all that noise coming from the mic before you start playing?

Re: The fabled AC/DC Sound has risen again from the ashes....

Try this Nathan ... Set your tone up for how it sounds recorded. It may sound like hell live but may sound great recorded. You do have to compensate for the mic/room characteristics.

Record a lick/riff.
Adjust your tone.
Repeat until it sounds awesome.

It's not a USB audio source, it is just powered by USB, but the audio is 3.5mm

Yes, the audio goes in via a 3.5 mm jack

So its going into the motherboards mic input?

Listen to Myaccount...

I do love the epic, attention-grabbing, egomaniacal thread titles! The clips, unfortunately, do not live up to the hype.
