The Fender Mod Shop

Have you guys seen the Fender mod shop yet?

http://shop.fender.com/en-US/mod-shop/

It's HIGHLY underwhelming and I thought you'd get a kick out of it.

You get to choose one of 9 readily available finishes, body orientation, Rosewood or Maple fingerboard, pickup configuration (with no H H) and of course...your pickguard and bridge.

Really the only "modded" thing you can have is Fender locking tuners on what is basically a Standard Strat.

I haven't even checked out the Tele section yet.

Maybe it is a pilot program...maybe it will grow. The way they posted it on Facebook though makes me think this is their big move with this thing :/

Re: The Fender Mod Shop

This is basically the "design experience" website or whatever they called it before, right? Or is that still a thing too? (I remember on the old one you could chose American Standard/Deluxe style or AVRI style, is that still an option)

In the end, we have to remember that we here are the opposite end of the spectrum from the target market. We willingly buy necks and bodies (a decent percentage build them) then tweak with hardware and pickups until our heart's content. This is obviously not for us.

Re: The Fender Mod Shop

Oh this is DEFINITELY not for us.

Fender "Here...choose from our line of custom pickups" *shows Fender stock pickups*

Us: :/

Re: The Fender Mod Shop

It's basically for people with way too much money and no skills.
You can build one off of Stratosphere with all Fender parts for half what the MOD Shop wants.
I'll pass, your're money ahead building a partscaster or buying a used American Standard and putting what you want in it..
Finally, the pickup options just suck! I was not impressed in the least..

What's really funny to me (speaking about the pickup options) is that they are routed Hum Single Hum anyway. Just by a standard in the color you like and do what you want to it.

Exactly! I just bought a new American Standard last week, I wanted a humbucker but they don't make them in Olympic White so I bought an SSS with a maple fretboard. She's sexy! Stratocasters are the ultimate hot rod guitar, since the superstrat boom in the 80s after EVH paved the way the sky is the limit.

Re: The Fender Mod Shop

It's just a JIT approach to manufacturing their standard line. That way they only assemble what they know they will sell.

Re: The Fender Mod Shop

I don't get why they switched from the American Design Experience over to this. They say it was because they got feedback that the ADE had too many options so they streamlined it. But the whole idea was to have tons of options. The only thing that kept me from buying an ADE guitar with my name on it was that they offered nitrocellulose reissue necks, but no nitrocellulose reissue bodies. I would have loved to order a real deal AVRI in some less common custom color. They had all the cool new Fender necks, like the '59 D, the '65 large C, the Hot Rod 60s C with compound radius and more and even left-handed so you could build a reverse headstock Strat!

But now it's basically "build your own American Standard".
