Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

Looks killer, but only on a Gibson V. That guitar wouldn't be the same without it, and it looks out of place on almost anything else.

Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

On a Gibson V = Good
On almost any other V = Good
On a Dean V = improvement over what Dean usually has
On a Gibson Marauder or S1 = Bad, bad, bad

Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

It looks good on a V style guitar.. on any thing else it does not look good IMO. But on a V it is cool

Exactly. But the amount of Marauders and S-1s i've seen with neck pockets that you can fit a whole cigarette, let alone the paper down the gap of, i'd say the headstock was the least of their problems.

Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

Now, if you're going to post a Marauder ad, it HAS to be this one...

And let's not forget it's Strat-busting brother, the S-1.

I never knew about the marauder but I always thought a double cut les paul body would work really well with the flying v headstock.

Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

Which V peghead are you talking about? The original sharp-point '58 or the re-issue "blunt" from the 1960s?

That Marauder has the blunt sixties style headstock. By the way, the Marauder is one of the very worst guitars EVER made... it nearly put Gibson out of business. Of course, they will become collectible, just like the Edsel. (young people, can do research to see what an Edsel is.)

I think that the V headstock looks correct on one type of guitar only... the one that it was designed for. As for the Dean, well that's an inside joke that nobody "gets" any more.

My guitar has a similar sort of headstock. Its slimmer and bends a little to one side. Check it out

Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

Marauders have to be the single worst guitar Gibson ever put out.

Re: The Flying V headstock - Your opinion?

They should've showed him with a busted one...

From what I recall, in exchange for the endorsement, Gibson would ship pallets of those things to Kiss on the road for free. Paul Stanley would play one for a single song (or less) and then smash it to bits as part of the "schtick".

I think that he destroyed the majority of their production that year. Of course all that will make the remaining ones collectible despite being utter garbage.

I like the look. I want it on my next partscaster. V headstock are just stylin'.

It looks like Gibson styled the Marauder after BM's red special a wee bit.
