The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

Re: The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

Interestingly, the Round 1 battles averaged 71 votes each, the Round 2 battles 52 votes each, and the last two rounds 46 votes per battle. I would've expected the number of votes to stay about the same or, if anything, increase as the battles went on. Did people lose interest over time?

My goal is to average 100 votes per battle per round. I hope the riff-offs become popular enough for that to happen.

Do we have a budget to hire DLT as marketing director? I'll throw in an armadillo or two...

i was wondering if the timeframe (lead up to the holidays) lead to diminished participation .. if so, perhaps we'll see more consistent participation in the next tourney ...

congrats to all, especially the Riff Master himself, cyberBKP.

I kinda suspected adam was monie's ghost with his text in the 1.3 thread.

Congrats! I missed the voting in the last round - couldn't decide which one I liked best :(

And congrats to all who made it further than I did. Totally shocked and yet not surprised it was ex250 who beat me in R1. I thought for sure it was Diocletian

Anyhoo, let's get jiggy with the 2nd Tournament :D

you guys in R1 going head to head was my favorite battle I gotta say.

Re: The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

Congrats to GoDrex, and to all competitors!

This was kind of rough for me. I lost the first round by three votes only to "win" when J Moose quit in a huff. I then lost the second round by one vote, a margin Mrs Dashing considers "statistically insignificant". So yeah, I'm the biggest loser of the tournament: I lost twice!

Re: The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

so, how do the guys who submitted entries that got some forum flack for not being riffs feel about said flack? do you see the objection? do you stand by your entry as a riff? do you see the objection but stand by your entry as a riff anyway? other?

i am curious as to how this 'riff definition' will play out over the next several tourneys

Re: The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

I've already rejected a submission for the January 2010 Riff-Off because it wasn't close enough to my definition of what a riff should be.

Re: The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

I had a blast with this.

I hated to lose in the semi's to cyberBKP, but I don't disagree with the result. :)

I'm really glad everyone enjoyed this so much.

I also didn't realize my tone was distinctive enough to be recognized like that... very surprising!

You're a winner in these baby browns right here [Dank points to his eyes].

And something to be proud of. The most difficult thing for a musician is to find a distinctive voice. Congrats.

Gross.

Re: The Great December 2009 Riff-Off Unveiling!

I had fun with this one. Lost out in the first round, but it inspired me to come up with better stuff for the second edition of the contest. Looking forward to it!
