Re: The Greenie

As in any LP set oop, or a specific one designed to emulate the particular oddities of PG's guitar (like the BKP or Shed Pickups versions).

Re: The Greenie

Duncan Custom Shop has a set called "The Greenie," I'm pretty sure thats what he is referring to.

Re: The Greenie

Never tried the Duncan CS set, I hear they are mostly like Antiquities but don't know for sure.

Peter's LP had a neck pickup from a later ES-355 so truth is a straight PAF style set won't be super correct but the other part is that Duncan PAF pickups feature a stronger bridge and weaker neck than typical PAFs too so it's not gonna be dead on.

That said I have a set of 59s with the neck magnet flipped...is it correct to what Peter used, no. Does it get the Peter Green vibe...sure does!

Re: The Greenie

BB King and Peter Green are two of my very favorite guitarists.

But that pinched, out of phase, mosquito tone isn't a tone I'm comfortable with using myself.

I just don't hear it inside. It's not for me.

I rarely use it but it can be the right tone sometimes.

The interesting thing about it is if you leave the toggle in the middle and just use the volumes to blend in and out of phase you can find a HUGE range of tones before ever flipping the toggle switch!

Yes. I have a 2 bucker guitar with the pups outta phase and volume pots set in individual wiring. When in the mid position I use one of the pots to go in and outta phase. It sounds almost like a wah. I love it.

Very true. And that's exactly the way BB King uses the out of phase pickups in his ES-355 and Lucille.

I just don't like fooling around like that when I should be focused on just playing. ;)

I'm not much of a multi-tasker.

That's why I love the Klon and didn't trust myself to take the KoT onstage with me - I wanted to keep fooling around with the knobs when I needed to be just concentrating on playing.

But the KoT did sound great.

Back from the dead.

Anyone else have a set they like or don't like? I haven't heard them in person and but the clips all sound pretty cool. I have a Gibson V that never gets played b/c it sounds like garbage, 496/500 stock set. Thinking of these for a vintage/unique sound.

Re: The Greenie

honestly if you want vintage sounds get a 4 cond seth or 59 set or even a wlh set and reverse the phase with a switch. i havent heard the greeny set but vintage set with phase switch will get you 95% there.

Re: The Greenie

Thanks. I'll be ordering a Seth pretty soon, would the Jimmy Page wiring be what I'm looking for? I can't remember if he phases from a push pull or not.

The 4 push-pull Jimmy Page wiring gives phase, coil cut for each PU, and linking the PU's in series. As a by-product of that, you can also have either one of the bridge coils on during coil cut, so that lets you create a 'virtual humbucker' when you pair the bridge slug coil with the neck screw coil.

Re: The Greenie

I was planning to, is there anything I can do about my PGB just being a two or am I stuck with no series and no split on the bridge? I don't have any experience with modding a pup.

Re: The Greenie

pearlys are usually 4 cond...

almost any pup can be converted from 2 to 4 or vise versa but you need to open the pup up and attach each start and finish coil wire to the corresponding 4 cond wire. not hard but needs to be done with caution so as to not kill the coils

Re: The Greenie

Right on, thanks. I'll probably farm it out and have a tech do it. A re-wire and pot change is above my skill level.
