The Guitar God smiled on me

I had put up an ad on my local Craigslist to sell a Fender Roc-Pro 1000 head. I get an email from a guy that has some guitars for trade.

In the pics, one looks like an Epi DOT... he called, we talked and he came over.

That DOT turned out to be a 1972 MIJ RIVERA !!! Schaller pickups... really strong and vibrant, excellent condition and just plays like a dream. This has to be the first or second year of production after the K-zoo shutdown. Triple bound body, bound neck and headstock and just missing the pick guard.

Unplugged it has great sound, plug it in and it just wails. Man these early MIJ Epi's are really nice.

Nice guitar...... Good luck with it. If you need/want a guard for it, contact Mirabella guitars. They make replacement guards for everything and should have all the patterns you need. Here

Sweet! Looks different from my 70 MIJ Riviera. My switch is by the knobs and the fret markers differ. I put the frequensator 2 pc tail and Gibby P94s to 'Stroke' it...killer guitar. Enjoy!

Re: The Guitar God smiled on me

From what I have read and searched most of these had mini-humbuckers in them (parallelogram inlays = mini-humbuckers, straight edged block inlays = full sized humbuckers). I pulled the pickups and it sure looks stock to me inside.

Butnut... are tuners on yours original? Mine are on a strip and have the oval shaped tuner head. The work really well, I was very surprised. The switch position does have me scratching my head....

A friend of mine that really knows his stuff told me the shape of the headstock, tuners, 3 screw pickup adjustment are all dead giveaways to early MIJ manufacture. He is also scratching his head on the switch placement.

Get rid of the Roc-Pro???... in a heartbeat..

I swapped the Grovers....just put a set of Sprezels on my Tele-Gib per the new owners request, ****...I never realized how kool those tuners work, so easy and with almost no wrap, they stay in tune. Yeah, that switch on the lower horn is kinda funky, still a kool axe. Wonder why yours does'nt have a pineapple on the headstock like mine?
