Lately I've been really thinking about having my own OD built, with cool casings, colors, options and the likes... It'd be based on a TS circuit...
It'd be using a 3PDT but with a buffer always in the chain so I can use the pedal first in chain as either a boost or OD. For this I need to find a buffer with a high enough input impedance (>500K) and low enough output impedance. So when I switch the pedal on the buffer's still there basically.
It'd be based on the TS circuits but with a few of my own tweaks. The first prototype will be have most caps socketed so I can mix and match different stuff.
It'll use assymetrical clipping with something which we shall call my secret weapon
It'll have the standard drive/tone/level complement of controls, as well as some toggle switches:
1) to switch between boost (low OD) and OD (higher gain) modes
2) to toggle between a 1N4002/nothing/diode for the assymetrical clipping
3) same as 2)
So basically only one 1N4002 would always be in the circuit, and you'd get loads of diode options, from 3 rectifier diodes to any random ideas I may get, heck I may try with LEDS.
The idea would be for a flatter EQed tube screamer with different modes, but still a fairly plug and play pedal. Select if you want boost or OD mode, be reassured you chain IS buffered, and then it's just a matter of tweaking the tone here and there. I don't want it to be over complicated so I'd rather not have trimpots or the likes inside.
I'd try to fit all this in the smallest casing possible, the MXR sized ones.
It'd of course be painted blue, white and red
I was thinking of having the tone control to the side as to not waste top space.
Anyway... what I'd like to know is what YOU think I could include on it. Yes the pedal is for me but I may build a couple depending on how it goes to give thme away, we'll see. I want the pedal to suit other people, not just me.
Suggest away!
