The Hughes and Kettner Tube Meister 18...awesome!

Re: The Hughes and Kettner Tube Meister 18...awesome!

Great info Joe!! Nice coming from someone who's opinion I trust. Ive been GASSING for one since they came out too as EVERY clip and review Ive heard have been great. PLUS, I want to get a recording rig together and these have the red box thing built in too.. Plus, I think it looks killer with the blue light.

Here's a good video. The second half is when he starts to show it's tonal range.
If you want it more vintage, just turn the masters all the way up, and dial the gain to taste.

Bump because 8 years later I bought one. Joe was really spot on.

Joneser may be many things - but he has great taste in gear...

Re: The Hughes and Kettner Tube Meister 18...awesome!

So I took my little blue German friend out for a run with some guys I do classic rock jams with. Les Paul w/ Duncan Distortion, straight into H&K, with a boss DD3 in the loop. Amp out to a Marshall 4x12.

Set up a crunch to clean on channel one, and a nice overdrive on channel two, plus had the boost available. The thing really sounded great all the way around. Distortion pickup punched channel 1 nicely. It sang on channel 2 with the boost going. Articulate, responsive. At 18 watts, I had power/volume to space. Drummer had a MASSIVE set.

No doubt this thing is NOT a classic British amp. However, I'm thinking a Dirty Little Secret or whatever in front into channel 1 would take care of that easy enough. Still, just a great sounding amp.

This is a purchase I'm extremely happy with right now...

I thought the same thing about getting a classic British sound out of mine, but surprisingly the Carl Martin PlexiTone didn’t transform it the way I was hoping. This is one of the things that eventually lead me to get a JVM.

That CM box should be able to Marshall up whatever all on its own just into clean. I could see the EQ on the H&K being persnickety with the pedal eq though...

Holy resurrected thread Batman!

I prefer the Grandmeister over the Tubemeister series, but maybe the Grands weren't available in 2012. I can't remember... so many years/amps ago. :jester:

Re: The Hughes and Kettner Tube Meister 18...awesome!

There are 2 threads. One is my Tubemeister for $350 thread where we discuss the possibility. Then on a search I found this thread and was amused at my comments!
